RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - watanave - 2016-01-12

Hola,

I'm not a developer. Can anybody explain this PR.

https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/8841

Gracias.

RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - HeresJohnny - 2016-01-12

Why do you need to know if you're not a developer?

RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - ironic_monkey - 2016-01-12

@watanave the tag loader was only enabled for files with .dsf extension. that commit enabled it for files with .dff extension as well (it's the same type of file).

Thank you, ironic_monkey.

Needed to confirm that.

Off topic for this thread, but do you know if the new ffmpeg tag loader could be used to gain tag support for Opus files?

RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - ironic_monkey - 2016-01-12

depends on what you mean with opus files. if they are in a ogg container, then yes, as it's just vorbiscomments on the container level. if not, i need to check if there is support to tack on vorbiscomments on raw bitstreams in libopus or not before i can answer.

RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - jjd-uk - 2016-01-12

It's not for me, I just remembered that some users have requested it so wondered if the ffmpeg tag loader might help full fill these requests, the only one I remember containing any details is this one http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=234681 where an ogg container in use.

RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - psysfaction - 2016-01-20

This is a very interesting thread. I am quite new when it comes to Audiophile Stereo music since most of my experience was in the home cinema sphere.

My uncle just brought me a his privat collection of dsd files and I was happy to see that Kodi played them.
From what I understand Kodi is downsampeling it to PCM and sends it over HDMI to my AVR.

If I get a DAC that can natively play DSD will Kodi be able to bitstream it to the Dac?

Can you recommend any DAC that I should have a look at?

RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - ironic_monkey - 2016-01-21

nope. no DoP (that's the hacky "standard" for this used to feed the DAC) in kodi.

RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - psysfaction - 2016-01-22

So what are the limitations of DoP?

I am currently looking into getting a DAC to use for when listening music in Kodi but still use HDMI for Movies.
I was thinking of getting the IFI IDAC2 since ti seems to support most DSD formats.

thanks for your help Smile, any luck?

Nope - was not - already sold this to someone who could use it.

Yes - but i was tagging my files with MP3Tag... in there, everything looks fine.
Do I have to add .dsf in the advancedsettings in order to get it added into the Music DB?

RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - psysfaction - 2016-01-27

Is there any development on being able to play a SACD ISO within Kodi?
I am starting to rip some SACD with my old PS3 and it would be great if Kodi would be abel to read them

RE: SACD/DSDIFF playback in XBMC - ironic_monkey - 2016-01-27

it somewhat works in my fork, https://github.com/notspiff/vfs.sacd

vfs addons have not been picked up by mainline so it won't do you any good there.

there are some problems though: SACD iso's use a lossless compression called DST. this is not supported by ffmpeg,
so i have no choice but to decode in the input layer. this creates all sorts of issues with seek and track lengths. as long as you play from A to B everything works fine.

Thank you for your quick answer.

I bought a software for mac called TraX that can extract and convert each song in a SACD Iso.
So now I'm using it to create DSDIFF files to play them more easily in Kodi
