FFmpeg decoding ProRes now - spanznet - 2011-11-16

does that mean XBMC will be able to as well? is that how it works? Excuse my ignorance.

The ffmpeg library is compiled into XBMC. It's not an external module. Currently we are using a relatively old version of the library, so new features like ProRes won't be in XBMC until we switch to a newer version of ffmpeg. This is a lot of work so it won't be done for v11.0, though I imagine it's on the radar for after the v11.0 is released.

I would also like to use this decoder. I don't see anything about ProRes in the Trac listing, so do you have any estimate of when the modern ffmpeg will be integrated? Or is it possible for users to install ffmpeg separately?
