@John.cord:
Test it with your beamer, that you have now and don't buy anything before!

what does rgb limited mean really?

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - un1versal - 2013-03-29

Limited color space, see http://www.avsforum.com/t/1265815/rgb-full-range-limited-or-full for a decent explanation on it.

I don't know if I get this right:
The sources (files like mkv h264 encoded) usually come in limited rgb?
So one should use limited rgb if the display/projector is capable to handle it correctly? Personally I am currently using full rgb on projector setup as on the htpc and do not experience any BtB or WtW issues as described in the above link.

I will try to use limited rgb on projector site and on htpc and will report any advantages / disadvantages.

Hi,

after partly following this guide (install unstable xvba xbmc and install new 9.000 fglrx) I am having problems with suspend.
I have the 99_fglrx for suspend but that doesnt work anymore.
Usually I just get a black screen and lightdm does not start anymore, the few times it does, it will not let me login to xbmc (returns to login again), logging in to the UI works then though.
The end of my Xorg.0.log spits out this:
Code:

rebooting fixes everything so i assume it is a problem with fglrx?
any help would be appreciated!

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-03-30

Remove the 99_fglrx workaround and retry.

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - Questionario - 2013-03-30

Thanks fritsch, just tried your suggestion...
first try the whole system did not respond after resume (including ssh)
second try it worked but there was a display error making the menu look a bit weird (like 1,5grey bars on the bottom).
third try the system did not respond again...
fourth and fifth try worked perfect
sixth try system stopped responding again
so i guess thats not a viable solution :-\
EDIT: to make it clear: with and without the 99_fglrx, the system works fine after a reboot, the problems only exist after a suspend/resume.

System is running on XBMCBuntu (Lubuntu 12.10) on a Zotac AD10 (E-350).
Code:
$ dpkg -l | grep fglrx
ii  fglrx                                2:9.000-0ubuntu3                           i386         Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators
ii  fglrx-amdcccle                       2:9.000-0ubuntu3                           i386         Catalyst Control Center for the AMD graphics accelerators
rc  fglrx-updates                        2:9.000-0ubuntu3                           i386         Video driver for the AMD graphics accelerators
ii  xvba-va-driver                       0.7.8-1ubuntu3                             i386         XvBA-based backend for VA API (AMD fglrx implementation)

$ uname -a
Linux XBMCBuntu 3.5.0-26-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 8 23:20:06 UTC 2013 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux

I did a little more testing and it seems to me that the Option in XBMC is not "real" RGB Limited becaue if i set my PS3 to RGB Limited and display the AVSHD709 Black Clipping Testpattern the Picture is correct (17-25 flashing) and on my XBMC Setup with the RGB Limited Option Active everything from 2 - 25 is flashing. If it is correct RGB Limited the result should be the same on PS3 and XBMC right?

@Questionario
thats the reason why i ordered a Zotac-NVIDIA miniITX Mainboard last week.
I'm tired with this AMD-Driver shit because i wasted so many time with the suspend/resume problem.

I had similar issues with this with Intel on-board graphics. There was a patch from Intel that sorted it for me. BTB and WTW are permanently clipped (as 16-235 content is remapped to 0-255, with <16 and >235 content permanently lost) but the >16 and <235 content is now correctly presented - and matches the same content played on a Blu-ray player, PS3 or Popcorn Hour all running in 16-235 output.

I often recommend this version of xbmc to people wanting amd accelerattion.

Now I am wanting to update my nvidia machines to frodo, and wonder what is the advantage of this branch for an nvidia/vdpau user?

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - un1versal - 2013-03-31

Quite a lot considering vdpau is a total rewrite.

Re: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - nickr - 2013-03-31

So vdpau code in this branch is different to the code in xbmc 'mainline'?

"total rewrite" could be interpreted as different Wink
