AW: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - Jan0sh - 2013-04-01

Did something went wrong on the xbmc-xvba ppa from wsnipex?
I did upgrade, now xbmc is very unstable and laggy IF it responses.
Adter reboot i shortly see the xbmc logo, than it crashes. After a killall xbmc.bin xbmc comes up and i am able to navigate. Also I am experience multi press events from my harmony even tho I did not change anything about that in compare to previous version.
When it finally comes to a point where I might play a movie/series. I just get a black screen and xbmc hangs. Top dose not show any high cpu load and the logs don't say anything. How ever xbmc will not show up again. It detects inputs from remote, but no gui shows up. This behavior is totally reproducable and reappears after reboot. The logs don't show me anything useful.

Debug log http://paste.ubuntu.com/5668652/

EDIT:
I did reinstall the debs from cache via:
/var/cache/apt/archives$ sudo dpkg -i xbmc-bin_2%3a13.0~git20130320.0500-d10eed7-0precise_amd64.deb xbmc_2%3a13.0~git20130320.0500-d10eed7-0precise_all.deb

And all problems described above disappeared. Will stick with the version from 2013/03/20 till this is fixed.

If I may help you with other logs/trys pleas contact me via pm.

If you want frodo then use yhe wsnipex frodo ppa. You have the git ppa with the current development code. See post #1.

No xbmc-xvba ppa was really stable up to this date. The xbmc-xvba-testing repo is likely more unstable. As described in post #1 xbmc-xvba contains 'tested git-builds' so I did not expect major/fatal bugs like described above. I don't know if the described problems are not widely spread or if this is because of the freshness of this changes.

I would say I have a very common setup. As stated above it was very stable until last update.

The ppa maintainers cannot test every combination of hardware. Welcome to testing ;)

Seems like you don't get it. Never mind. The "combination of hardware" is an asus e350 board.

Well it looks like you caught an untested case. Your testing will help I'm sure.

It would perhaps be more helpful if you said the package names of the ones that didn't work. Cheers.

I did say that I am using the xbmc-xvba ppa from wsnipex. I did say after the latest update approximately 12 hours ago. Which version may it be?! To make things clearer than clear it is this version: 2:13.0~git20130331.0500-1d4a659-0precise

Now the question is what you describe with untested case. I did not try anything special. Just booting -> force close or hang. Restart of xbmc-> inputs are 'hyper sensitive', high cpu load. Trying to play a file-> black screen, no responses (even the debug infos in the left upper corner freeze) although I can see within the logs that xbmc still recognizes my keyboard inputs, but won't play anything/ won't show gui. I think playing a file is no 'untested corner case'...

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-04-02

@Jan0sh:
Please supply a log with debugging turned on, so we can see what actually went wrong.

Concerning vdpau/xvba: The architecture has settled. In fact xvba is - from our side - complete and unchanged since approx 4 month now. Vdpau has been proofed stable since even a longer time. The last changes here were "Studio Level" was moved into vdpau and more resources are freed when switching channels with PVR.

In short: Those two are ready for mainline.

The branch currently looses a bit stability, cause v13.0 gets less stable - we are now back into development and therefore things change and break. Other changes were vsync related, feature related (high qual scalers can now be made depend on the actual view width and height).

So - the monthly "stables", aka the packages that are produced before a new merge window starts could be less stable than what you normally can expect. It is therefore of high value to get correct debug logs, to decide if the breakage is "from upstream" or introduced with the branch based changes.

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - nickr - 2013-04-02

"latest" is not a version - record the version, the ppa will move on. Responders shouldn't have to delve into the ppa history to see what version was current 12 hours before your post. Please I am not getting at you, just trying to make sure you provide relevant info.

What I mean by "untested case" covers a variety of things:

1. the ppa people may not have tested thoroughly - things slip through.

2. They may not have your hardware (although they probably have something similar)

Don't forget you are running alpha code. Expect breakages. Brave to be a tester, good on you, but two devs testing the packages can't do everything, so you (and me actually) are necessarily testing for them. You found some bugs.

Looking at your log it is hard to see what the problem is, but I am not expert in the interpretation of logs. I see that XBMC does try to switch modes to 23.976 when playing the movie, The commandline it uses is at line 7585 /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc-xrandr --screen 0 --output DFP1 --mode 0xa2

Try that command outside xbmc and see if your graphics card copes. You could of course have updated more than xbmc Smile

@fritsh: Debug mode was enabled, but after freeze of xbmc no crashlog was created. So i uped the one from .xbmc/temp.

@nickr: The log itself contained the absolute version of xbmc.
I also did only update xbmc and xbmc.bin, which I could verify with help of /log/apt

I will retry this afternoon.

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-04-02

@Jan0sh:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install libcec2

AW: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - Jan0sh - 2013-04-02

Same problems
Also i won't get any crashreport in my Home, even if i killall -9 xbmc.bin.
All I may upload is the debug log from. Xbmc/temp/xbmc.log

EDIT:
It seems like the guide is completely hanging after reboot. Xbmc logs remote input in xbmc.log but the debug log information in the upper left corner stays static.

Also if I try to connect my phone through yates with xbmc it works. Display stays static and if I try to play music or files, nothing changes.

Even after disconnect the log keeps getting lines like this:
Code:
15:09:32 T:140506433464192   DEBUG: Keyboard: scancode: 0x09, sym: 0x001b, unicode: 0x001b, modifier: 0x0

This dose not change even if I disconnect ir and all other usb modules.

BTB and WTW are permanently clipped (as 16-235 content is remapped to 0-255, with <16 and >235 content permanently lost) but the >16 and <235 content is now correctly presented - and matches the same content played on a Blu-ray player, PS3 or Popcorn Hour all running in 16-235 output.

Ok. I thought RGB Limited is OK on Nvidia but unfortunately it is not or the way it is implemented in this XBMC Built... Confused

EDIT: Ok, i set it to Limited via the xorg.conf and it is now working.. :-)
