RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - deadite66 - 2013-09-27

Radeon OSS vdpau, 3.11.1 x64 kernel from fritsch.
mesa packages from oibaf ppa.

Video has started jumping about, frames jumping back and forth and lots of skipped frames.
didn't notice this before the last 2 updates from ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-xvba

debug log : http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=63159

EDIT: seems to be a problem with resuming a stopped file, playing from the start it doesn't stutter.

Looks like fixed in fernetmenta's master. Yeah, work in progress.

I had the same problem on OpenELEC OSS vdpau version, when I tried to fast forward by pressing multiple times right cursor key. Movie restart also solved the problem in my case. But.. I remember - few months ago I had the same problem with fglrx and VLC and other players too (mplayer-vaapi). Only fglrx reload solved the problem. Maybe it is a hardware problem (UVD)?

PS Great job guys! I have been following this thread for almost 2 years. I'm impressed. Thank you! Now I can say good bye to fglrx with pleasure :-)
PPS Sorry for my English, it's not my mother tounge.

No it was a pure software problem. It is already fixed.

Thanks everyone involved for the awesome progress, that's for sure!
Video works smooooth, in my case, cpu usage has decreased with 50%.

However, am I the only one not able to get audio over HDMI to function at all (despite having radeon.audio=1 set in /etc/defaults/grub)?
Alsa recognizes ATI HDA (only spdif is showing here - I think that's wrong) + HD Generic HDMI, also unmuted every output in alsamixer.
And there's no audio related error in dmesg, so I'm confused.

After you changed the /etc/defaults/grub file, did you issue a "sudo update-grub" command?

So for general usage, all can be done via ppa:

Code:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-xvba-testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install libg3dvl-mesa libvdpau1

Make sure to run at least 3.11.1 kernel with the addition of radeon.audio=1 and radeon.dpm=1 to the kernel command line.

If you want the 7.1 LPCM audio, make sure to install the kernel I linked above or build yourself with the two patches mentioned.

Edit: It is currently rebuilt - so wait some minutes: https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/graphics-drivers/+build/5042388

I finally managed to install everything without breaking the entire system but now I'm stuck again Undecided.
It just gives a black screen now and it looks like lightdm keeps trying to restart itself. When I open tty1 I see "GPU lockup CP stall for more than 10000msec" errors and when I stop lightdm and do startx the system freezes.
I found this with google but it seems that it is already fixed? Huh

Anyone got a clue?

Report your issue to the OSS bugtracker and gather as much logfiles you find. This is some driver failing in combination with your hardware / software setup.

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - Snippo - 2013-09-28

I found a similar bug was already reported so I added my logs there: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69235 (I have an A4-3400).
I'll stick to software decoding for now because I can't be bothered to get fglrx working again. Rolleyes

I thought I did that, and I did. No result. Updating to kernel 3.12 rc3 did move the log file to say something like "[drm] audio x enabled" (x6), but no sound at all.
But thanks for pointing out not to forget the update-grub command!

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-09-29

@noopie2: Please post your logfiles, nobody on earth can help you without further information.

Code:
dmesg | pastebinit
cat ~/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log | pastebinit

Despite this, for 3.12rc2++ that might do something:
Code:
DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --output HDMI-0 --set audio enable

Looks like someone had a similar problem as well. 3.12 audio issues

You can try the solution at the bottom:bugzilla known 3.12 hdmi issue

RE: How to Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/Nvidia/Intel GPUs - fritsch - 2013-09-30

Amd just released v2.0 of the Audio doku. Now DTS-HD / True-HD can now be used. Anssi has started to implement it :-)

Edit: This Audio code of cause also works with the binary blob fglrx, if you get it compiled on such a late kernel.
