RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/ATI Radeon and Fusion GPUs - fritsch - 2012-09-16

@guilmxm:
I wrote a howto for that receiver last year two days before christmas, it is working fine with lirc - but was a bit of a hazzle. I keep the zotac with OE in my living room - so that my GF does not always have to be my beta tester :-)

I wonder what timeframe Frodo alpha -> beta -> release is.
Anybody got any hints?

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/ATI Radeon and Fusion GPUs - guilmxm - 2012-09-16

@ fritsch:

You're right and my GF has the same opinion, she does not always appreciate to be my beta tester Big Grin
I ran into all tests possible with the new device i got under Openelec (Zotac AD11), and all that i can say is that i am as impressed as you are! That's really a great job from them! Everything is working out of the box, definitively great

@ fritsch:

I'm running OpenELEC 2.0 Beta 7 (1.95.7) and performance on my E350 fusion board has been excellent, though everything has not worked out of the box for me. Had to configure the HDMI separately to get sound and still not able to get the menu sounds to work. I also have a really weird issue - whenever I pause a running movie, the screen goes blank for a second and then reappears. This also happens when returning to a menu when a movie is stopped. I'm not sure if its a receiver issue (Onkyo TX-SR608) but it seems to me that the resolution is being changed / switched causing this blank in-between. This happened with this XBMCbuntu release as well so I'm not sure if it's a driver issue.

Speaking about OpenELEC - I wasn't able to create bootable usb flashdrive using Windows application provided by them. I could install alternative way ... but ended up with alpha 5 of XBMC PVR Xvba - which (almost) works for me, it 'only' restarts when I stop recording dvb-t (but it's still alpha)

@fritsch:

Any news about Catalyst 12.9 issue ? I was thinking about going into some tests, could you be more precised about the problem you mentioned ?

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/ATI Radeon and Fusion GPUs - fritsch - 2012-09-18

@guilmxm:
We fixed the problems it caused. You can use it like every other catalyst. The driver was fine, it was our code that produced the error. A one liner, see the oopsie commit.

Version, that have problems: 12.4 (VC1 corruption), 12.8 (h264 cabac problem)

Current Problems:
TrueHD Audio is totally messed up - upstream is working on it. Cause of AE changes, you could have to add
<audio>
<streamsilence>1</streamsilence>
</audio>

into your advancedsettings.xml

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/ATI Radeon and Fusion GPUs - guilmxm - 2012-09-18

@ fritsch

Ok thanks a lot, i'll test that!

About your comment for "streamsilence" to bet set, i've found that, Post #4
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=139542&highlight=streamsilence

explanations:

Quote:If not present or false (0) AudioEngine will go into a suspend state when there are no playing streams or GUI sounds, saving power and releasing the WASAPI exclusive sink so external players can get access to the audio device.

If true it restores the previous AE behaviour of running constantly (even if silent) for less receiver / sink switches and a faster response on starting a stream.

@skiddyrow

I have the same problem with my E350 and my Yamanha receiver: the screen goes blank for a sec and the comes back. Also, sometimes, depending on the order I turn on/off my TV/receiver, I end up my no sound or a weird resolution. I tried to force the edid, It fixed the resolution problem but I could not output sound via hdmi then.

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/ATI Radeon and Fusion GPUs - fritsch - 2012-09-18

@tcamargo: fglrx does not signal "hdmi plugged" correctly. You can revive your audio by playing a DTS or AC3 passthrough track as this opens audio never the less by force. Add such a track into your favorites, so it does no shrink usability a lot :p

This was later fixed in AudioEngine - in upcoming frodo version - so perhaps you can workaround it till AMD fixes this issue. I don't know how 9.0.0 performs with it yet - as there is no beta7 with 9.0.0 patched in.

Hi,

I'm trying to build binary from git, but I have some trouble.

The compilation seems to work, but when I launch the binary and attempt to play a HD video, the libavcodec totally messed up and the binary xbmc.bin segfalt.

Did I miss something ?

Fritsch give me his howto to fix my problem :

Thxs' to him again Smile

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/ATI Radeon and Fusion GPUs - tcamargo - 2012-09-18

@fritsch: usuallly, i am still running eden. Since the last fglrx/xbmc update, i usually can fix the problem by turning off/on my receiver. The resolution issue is still a problem...

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/ATI Radeon and Fusion GPUs - fritsch - 2012-09-18

@tcamargo: you can force edid

It is totally bad documented, but placing a file to /etc/ati/ . Here is a howto: http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=How_to_build_your_own_custom_OpenELEC_FRODO_build_using_XBMC_master_branch

You can ask Susis_Strolch on irc, if you like.

Basically: save the edid when "it is working" place it there and fine.

RE: Howto Install XBMC PVR Xvba for AMD/ATI Radeon and Fusion GPUs - tcamargo - 2012-09-18

@fritsch I tried that some time ago but ended up with no-sound, I will try again...
