Easiest way to Search/Filter? Add-On? - svinyard - 2012-02-15

A request from my wife:

"Is there an easier way to get to a movie I roughly know the title of? I hate having to scroll forever to find it."

Yes Honey, I know. Now quit your bitchin' and go make me a pie. (Valentines day was yesterday) Smile jk

So Whats the best way to do this? I do use a keyboard with a touchpad on it and an Android phone. Movie library is large. I know there are ways to search but its far from clean and easy...let alone without a keyboard.

How does everyone else do this? Is it easy on the spouse?

I'd like to be able to bring up a small search panel and as I type in it, it filters out everything that doesn't meet my needs automatically.

The Global Search add-on

Settings -> Add-ons -> Get add-ons -> XBMC.org -> Programs

The filter button (on the left) filters any current list to just show what matches - it uses only title though. If it's an edit control (it depends on the skin) then it does it in realtime.

In addition there's jumping through the list (SHIFT-A etc.)

There's also jumping through letters available (not sure if it's keymapped by default).

Lots of options...

Cheers,
Jonathan

Excellent info. Thank you guys!

I'll have to investigate this. Just filtering Title is perfect
