RE: AudioEngine testers - Linux only - sjongele - 2013-03-10

AE has been working correctly for months (Ubuntu 12.04, NVIDIA), but after March 5 something has changed in git that breaks things (at least for my set-up): DTS-HD MA stutters, TrueHD does not lock-in at all.

While playing DTS-HD MA tracks, my XBMC log shows a lot of:

I had the same problem and it appears to be caused by Pull Request 2320. After rolling back PR#2320, DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD play without issue.

RE: AudioEngine testers - Linux only - sjongele - 2013-03-10

Thanks vicbitter!

Rolling back PR 2320 does indeed solve the issue.

Kind regards,

The version of xbmc is 2:12.0~git20.

Can someone help me? Thanks.

I am thinking to try Ubuntu or OpenSuse to replace Lubuntu.

RE: AudioEngine testers - Linux only - DaMizZa - 2013-03-13

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place or not, and am hoping I can somehow confirm the cause of my problem here with some help... I recently upgraded both my XBMC PCs (a Q6600 Quad Core w/ GT210 and an Atom/ION) from Eden to Frodo, and on both I'm having issues with audio. They are both doing the same thing - essentially unless I set it to passthrough audio for all codecs, I get no audio and the video plays at 4 FPS. Problem is I don't want to use passthrough audio (having to use a second remote just for volume control is a pain to say the least, and my ION PC is just directly connected to a TV which doesn't support the majority of those codecs anyway). I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on both PCs, and they are both using the 195.36.24 nVidia drivers. I figured the only thing that has changed from Eden to Frodo was that it's using AudioEngine now, so figured that would be the most logical place to start (although I'm also suspect of the problem being that I'm running an older version of Ubuntu and old drivers perhaps).

Here is my debug log off my GT210 PC. I disabled all the pass through audio settings that I used to have disabled before updating to Frodo, started a video I knew was going to give me the problem (no audio, 4 FPS frame rate), stopped it, then re-enabled all the passthrough audio settings, and played it again (without any issues). If needed I can run through more stuff if it'll help...

I have tried changing the Audio Output in XBMC from "HDMI" to "Analog" and disabling the passthrough audio settings, but the issue was still present. I'm hoping someone can give me an idea of a starting point to fix this... I'm completely out of ideas (it didn't take long to run through all my ideas to be honest haha)

RE: AudioEngine testers - Linux only - GrimGriefer - 2013-03-13

Thought I'd post a weird bug I have noticed with OpenELEC that I have also posted to their forums.

Setup
1 x Shuttle XS35GTV2 (nVidia ION2) -> Onkyo HTX22HDX

Ever since release candidate 2 of OpenELEC version 3 the HD audio streams no longer work on my setup. I have updated and tried RC5 today but still not working. In case this may interest anyone I have included the log files of working and not working TrueHD and Master Audio streams.

Dolby TrueHD
[RC2] v2.99.2 - Working (xbmc log).
[RC4] v2.99.4 - Not Working (xbmc log).

DTS-HD Master Audio
[RC2] v2.99.2 - Working (xbmc log).
[RC4] v2.99.4 - Not Working (xbmc log).

Also of interest, I also have another setup of 1 x Shuttle XS35GTV2 (nVidia ION2) -> Onkyo HTX22HD (older model) and that works fine with for HD audio streams using whichever release candidate of OpenELEC.

Btw, I also tried XBMCbuntu and got the same problem of no HD Audio from the HTX22HDX.

Hopefully this will help the devs in some way and happy to try any suggestions to try and help fix it if I can.

RE: AudioEngine testers - Linux only - FuN_KeY - 2013-03-14

Hello,

DTS-HD and TrueHD does not work on my system either.

Here is my configuration:
- OpenElec 2.99.5
- Intel G620 with HD Graphics
- Onkyo HT-R358
- DH67CF

The video does not stutter, but I don't get any sound and the Onkyo does not get in the correct mode.

Here is the log: http://pastebin.com/84CvLgBJ

RE: AudioEngine testers - Linux only - un1versal - 2013-03-14

@FuN_KeY

see Intel_Linux_Modifications_for_HD_Audio (wiki) For intel HD auido. That should be part of a later openlec I think needs kernel 3.8

uNi

RE: AudioEngine testers - Linux only - FuN_KeY - 2013-03-14

@uNi

Thanks for the answer. I went a little further on that topic, and it seems that this modification has been backported since 2.99.3 has HD Bistream for Intel GPU is part of its release note.

But, I forgot to disable the other SPDIF devices present (there is one on the embeded sound card). I did that now, but sadly it didn't help; still no sound with DTS-HD/TrueHD

RE: AudioEngine testers - Linux only - un1versal - 2013-03-14

Yes, mmm Unfortunatly I cannot help you as I dont use Openelec but hey cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Sounds like it may be a handshake problem between the Shuttle and the Onkyo. Have you tried extracting a custom EDID and adding it to your xorg.conf? Checkout the Config EDID nVidia wiki article on OpenELEC

No luck I'm afraid Vicbitter. I extracted the EDID using both 2.99.2 and 2.99.5 of OpenELEC without any problems. Made the necessary changes to the newly create xorg.conf and checked they were working by changing the display resolution to force 720p (which it did) but again no HD audio on anything above version 2.99.2.

RE: AudioEngine testers - Linux only - Ozzmosis - 2013-03-25

Hello!

I am having sound problems with v12.1. Specifically, I have a momentary pause while playing music only, similar to post #63. I have no crashing problems. Here is what I am trying to accomplish:

I have a Geforce GT 430 sound card with HDMI going to my Panasonic Plasma for normal viewing
I have a Optical output from the onboard audio going to my Yamaha RX-V1500 receiver.
I have an analog output from the onboard audio going to Zone2 on the Yamaha receiver for living room audio.

I have simultaneous output configured in Ubuntu 12.04 (HDMI and Analog)

In XBMC I have the audio output device as "Pulseaudio server" and the passthrough device as "HDA NVIDIA(nvidia), HDMI" which outputs via optical to the receiver.

To work around the problem, I change the audio output device to "HDA NVIDIA(nvidia), ALC1200 Analog" which outputs to the Optical and Analog to the receiver, but not the Plasma's HDMI (I have to watch all video with the receiver on, which is not what I want to do late at night when the daughter is trying to sleep... lol)

I am new to Linux, therefore need some direction as to what to post for support.

Here is my XBMC debug log: http://pastebin.com/2zyQxdfB

I hope I can get this resolved, as it was never a problem in Eden.

Thanks so much for reading this lengthy post!

I installed XBMC in Lubuntu 12.10 and it works without problem except the HDMI audio using an Asus GeForce GT620-DCSL-2GD3.

If I connect my HTPC directly to the TV (Panasonic VT50) and I select HDA NVIDIA HDMI 3 in XBMC, I have audio. However. with the same config I connect the HTPC to my receiver (Yamaha RX-V1900),I don't have sound.

The xbmc.log is: http://pastebin.com/hjndji0p The NVIDIA driver is nvidia-current-update.

How can I make to resolve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

I looked in /proc/asound/card1 alll looks normal:

The only strange thing is the monitor_name, I think it should be Yamaha and not Lumagen (the video processor is connected). The receiver shows the video but it looks is not receiving some sound.

The version of xbmc is 2:12.0~git20.

Can someone help me? Thanks.

I am thinking to try Ubuntu or OpenSuse to replace Lubuntu.

I made more tests and I have sound using the HDMI output of the motherboard, the problem it doesn't support HD audio.

I have the doubt if I test to get the EDID nvidia or I test with more modern NVIDIA drivers.

Any suggestions? What is best to test?

I have installed Lubuntu 13.04 Beta 1, it has a kernel 3.8, I read it has a better support of HD audio with XBMC Frodo 12.1 compiled from source.

However, the situation didn't change and I don't have HDMI sound with the NVIDIA graphics card. The audio controller is:

Code:
01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 83ff
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17
    Memory at f7080000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 3
    Capabilities: [68] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+
Capabilities: [78] Express Endpoint, MSI 00
    Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel

And I activated the option of debug log in XBMC: http://pastebin.com/Pym3J6fP

Can someone help me? Is a good idea to install XBMC 13 - Gotham.

Thanks in advance.
