Welcome to the XBMC forums.
Does this happen with all *.avi files are just that one? Are you able to play that file outside of XBMC with another application?
You may want to run MediaInfo (wiki) on that file, upload the results to pastebin and post the URL here.

I'm having this trouble with just these, and some others not all. They do work on my xvid player

Changed skin back from Aeon nox to confluence and now it works!
