RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - pacemaker1000 - 2013-11-08 Sorry to hijack but can someone tell me if the following will work for me BOXDCCP847DYE basic unit with no sdd just 8gb ram? Just using to stream online and from nas up to 1080p Hanks RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - -DDD- - 2013-11-08 Maybe with PXE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_booting But why don't use a USB3.0 Flash Drive with 8 or 16GB or a 32GB SSD? RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - -DDD- - 2013-11-08 RPI's often use a SD Card as a replacement for SSD/HDD. You have to boot from something, that couldn't be RAM cause this will be erased when you turn off your PC Re: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - nickr - 2013-11-09 You do have to boot from something, but that something can be pxe over a lan. RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - pacemaker1000 - 2013-11-09 ^^^^ Thanks guys got it now....doh Will go with an Ssd or usb stick Take it there is nothing wrong with he unit itself and its ability to stream my stuff. Tbh I find the RPi god enough but too slow and my old htpc is a bit of a dinosaur plus overkill now I only use it with Openelec RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - arokh - 2013-11-09 Picked up my Haswell NUC today, but there's no picture.. I can see in my router log it gets an IP address and tries to boot off the network, so it's working. I'm using a mini hdmi to hdmi converter plug maybe the plug isn't working? Guess I'll have to get a new cable on Monday. Should ask here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=176718&page=17 RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - behave49 - 2013-11-10 Hi all, i'm using my i3 nuc now for a while. I'm using a logitech k400 for using my nuc. Everything (xbmc) is running oke bit I have 1 problem. When my nuc is idle for a while it looks like its stuck (freeze) The one thong i can do is turn it of with the power button. Any ideas about this? Thanks RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - -DDD- - 2013-11-10 What OS do you use? RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - the_bluester - 2013-11-11 A query for those using a NUC with Ubuntu, XBMXBuntu or Openelec. Is anyone using something like this http://au.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-x-fi-surround-5-1-pro As an option to gain a TOSlink optical audio output from a NUC? My AVR is pre HDMI but is not often used and TBH, I like it for music and don't want to waste money on replacing it if I can get a USB audio card to work under a Linux type build. Anyone doing that? The usual sound output would be HDMI to the TV but it would be good to be able to listen to music without the TV on and gain 5.1 sound back given te obvious issue of trying to pass though 5.1 sound to TOSlink via a HDMI input (Stupid industry restriction, deters no one from doing anything they should not and prevents the honest from doing something they should be perfecty able to to) RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - 00b5 - 2013-11-11 (2013-11-11, 05:29)the_bluester Wrote: A query for those using a NUC with Ubuntu, XBMXBuntu or Openelec. I'd like to try out the 3D features. TIA! RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Sandy/Ivy Bridge 2012 edition) - nickr - 2013-11-16 oops the foum put my consecutive posts together which is a bit confusing. Once again the appropriate @'s @Ayala Yes go to the openelec forums and go to the development subforum. You need to be a registered forum user to go into the dev section. No big deal. There is at least one thread there. Do note that openelec have pretty well done away with their differentiated builds. Pretty much everyone is on 'generic' now. @bluester (2013-11-11, 05:29)the_bluester Wrote: A query for those using a NUC with Ubuntu, XBMXBuntu or Openelec. Is anyone using something like thisI have used a usb soundcard in plenty of situations (different computers, mythtv, xbmc etc etc) to do exactly that. However the model you are looking at is pretty expensive. This should do the same thing at less cost http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/sound-cards-accessories/micro-ii/31 I don't know what that fancy volume control is on the one you pointed to, you won't need it as it should pass your digital audio straight through without touching it. Also soundblaster - never been impressed. Once again the appropriate @'s Ah thanks for the info I wasn't aware that OE had made that choice. Thanks nickr!!! UPDATE: Not sure that generic build is compatible with my NUC as I seem to have broken it, is anyone here running OE Gotham? |
