RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jammyb - 2013-04-08

I'd say the i3 should cope with it. But the celeron won't?

Pass!

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - Roby77 - 2013-04-08

what about a remote + ir capable of shutdown and power on ?

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - lem000 - 2013-04-08

Roby - The NUC has an exposed pin header as well as power button on the board itself so you should be able to use something like http://www.simerec.com/

JammyB - I'm leaning towards the i3 for xbmc due to the HD4000 GPU, but currently have an nvidia board due to the superior deinterlacing on OpenELEC (I use mine as our main TV and a lot of broadcast are 1080i)

Thank you lem000

Anyone has tested it and can post some pics ?

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jammyb - 2013-04-08

Go back a couple pages. We talked about simerec and remote switch on and off.

I'm leaning towards the celeron as I don't need the transcoding capabilities. Just need to confirm that internal rainbow pin headers are in the celeron model and then I'll begin purchasing and drilling out for internal IR control with simerec and flirc it rc6!

Thank you for the link.

However, I have absolutely no idea how to add the xrandr line. I have downloaded putty on the main pc, but that's all I got for now.

Google is your friend!

If the pin 9 has voltage when the nuc is off (S5) then it should work but no garanty

How does it looks with the Celeron NUC?

I gave up on the Pi and got the celeron NUC. As cool as the Pi is, with the NUC I don't have to constantly manage it. I really like this box it's been great so far.

Agreed... Lovin the Nuc (celeron) so far. Outside of the heat (constantly running 178F-180F), it's handled everything I've thrown at it.

Sorry guys,

I'm a little sick right now, so I did not touch my NUC Impactis build.

I made a few pictures from the outside case.

So far I stay impressed by the case.

Super efficient cooling, way cooler than the stock Intel cooler. Some movie watching, surfing, streaming will only heat the case up mildly.

Really happy with it Smile

Hmm... Mine seems to max out at 155F. I wonder if there's inconsistent application of thermal paste, or seating of the heat sink that would explain the different temp readings that users are getting? Does anyone with an extra toasty NUC feel like removing the heatsink and applying some Arctic Silver, or other good quality thermal paste?

Or could it be the OS? Im running XBMCbuntu... Are you on openelec?

I had the Intel heatsink in my hands, and it seems very cheap. Not even any copper part. all very thin and light. Seems like it was not designed to absorb huge amounts of energy.

The thermal paste that was on there seemed quite dry as well, maybe it really helps putting some quality one on it.

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jammyb - 2013-04-08

Can anyone here with the Celeron check to see if pin 9 has 5v when switched off?

If it does then simerec is gonna work!
