Is vaapi something you can install under XBMC?

vaapi is the linux counterpart to DXVA, i.e. hardware accellerated video decoding.

Ah does that mean it can only be installed in a linux environment and not Windows

yes, vaapi is linux only (afaik). however, if you need hardware accellerated video decoding (e.g. on the celeron nuc) you install a recent intel driver for the integrated hd graphics. in xbmc (for windows) you set render method to auto and enable DXVA2. this should pretty much achieve the same thing as using vaapi with xbmc on linux.

What remote control solution is everybody using on their Nuc's?
Tempted by flirc but wondered if there is power going to the usb port to resume the device?

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jammyb - 2013-04-29

Search "simerec" in this thread mate.

So ideally I would need simrec and flirc?
Which version of Simrec are people using PCS-1 or 2?
Am so tempted to pull the trigger but can't help but wonder about the Gigabyte Brix....

You don't necessarily need FLIRC. Any Windows Media Center USB remote receiver will work, OpenElec supports them very well. You can get setups on eBay for well under $10 USD shipped.

I'm actually surprised that Intel did not include the special IR header on the NUC that many of their motherboards have. It allows for painless power on, power off through IR with the use of a $25 part that also doubles as a MCE receiver.

I read through the recent pages, was wondering, does anyone use the Impactics case with a wifi connection? Looks like a great case, but for the time being I'm using wifi (Intel 6235), and I'm unsure if such a big block of metal will stop all traffic.

Reason for asking, is that I have only seen users with cable till now.

It will work, you will just need to adjust the angle of the antena, so it can get a better reception. IMHO.

IMO, wifi is a nightmare for streamings, wifi should be used only for internet connections on portable devices.

Top of the page. On the right hand side type in simerec and press "search this thread"

It's been fitted and lists the model number and how to wire it.

Smile me too. Problem, afaik, that not that much people are watching 3D at home, especially full 3d iso rips. Sad
