RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - Intel - 2013-05-07 Hi all, just got my Simerec pcs-1 today, anyone else using any of the ir eyes from Simerec with the stock case? Did you all drill a hole for it? I'm thinking of letting the ir eye hang on the outside and just pull the cables through the security thingy on the backside (the hole marked with K(ensington)). Any other suggestions? I would prefer not to do any damage to the case RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jammyb - 2013-05-07 I'm using uncle Dremel to make a window. you'll see soon! RE: Intel NUC - Pass POST without mSATA ?? - Kentbrockman - 2013-05-07 I just received my 847DYE unit yesterday and am trying to set it up with Openelec. I plan on booting it from a USB key so I did not purchase an mSATA drive. I installed a single stick (4GB) of Kingston Ram. When I power it on all I get are three blinks of the blue light. According to the intel forums this indicates a memory error. I have already replaced the RAM to rule out a bad stick. Does this unit require a connected mSATA to pass the POST? Is there another way to get into the BIOS and set it to boot from USB? Any help would be greatly appreciated. RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - MrBogus - 2013-05-07 I can assure you that it does not require a mSATA plugged to pass the POST. Mine is booting OpenELEC from a USB key with no other storage connected. I also have a single stick of Kingston RAM. RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - Kentbrockman - 2013-05-07 Thanks for the quick response Mr. Bogus Maybe I'll go pick up yet another brand of RAM and give it a shot. What mhz is the RAM you are using ? It requires a little pressure. RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - Kentbrockman - 2013-05-07 DrowningApe, You were right, the RAM module was not in all the way. It required a lot more force than I thought it would. I haven't been able to confirm that I can get into the BIOS, but I no longer have the memory error. Thank You so much for the help RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - lem000 - 2013-05-07 Beta de-interlacing support in OpenELEC http://openelec.tv/forum/116-vaapi-intel/64006-vaapi-deinterlacing-testing Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - DrowningApe - 2013-05-07 (2013-05-07, 22:31)Kentbrockman Wrote: DrowningApe, Happy to help. To get into the bios you can either hit F2 on the post screen or switch the jumper on the motherboard to force the bios. If you haven't updated the bios, I would advise doing that as well. Thats what I was hoping. Does the Celeron model have the HD3000 graphics chip or is it something else? Would the Celeron be able to handle a LiveTV/PVR backend (eyeTV antennae to usb dongle) or would that be pushing it too far? RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - Dougie Fresh - 2013-05-08 The Celeron has HD2000 GPU as reported by HWInfo64. The CPU won't be used much for tuning/recording unless your tuner doesn't have a HW decoder in it (unusual). It does fine for LiveTV though Intel's de-interlacing leaves much to be desired so just pass the signal through to your TV to do the de-interlacing. Anyone looking for i3 NUC specs (i3-3217U) but with USB3.0 and the ability to add mSATA, optical drive and even up to 2 x 2.5" HDD should have a look at this newly available i3-3217U mini-ITX barebones This is very interesting, and considering the price and specs are comparable to the NUC it seems like the way to go.. No moding to add IR, can add a optical driver, etc. Nice, I'm going to go with the ecosmart solution gib RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jammyb - 2013-05-08 (2013-05-08, 09:12)gibster Wrote:(2013-04-30, 22:46)Dougie Fresh Wrote: I posted this in another thread but thought I'd post it here too. Or is that the conspiracy theorist in me flaring up? How's your window coming along? RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jammyb - 2013-05-08 NUC hasn't shown up yet |
