RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - jammyb - 2013-07-31

Can't you use homeplugs?

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - arokh - 2013-08-02

I've got the Intel Centrino 6235, works great. Now they are selling the AC 7260 for the same price though, about 20 pounds.

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - buzzqw - 2013-08-02

My NUC is arrived at home!

NUC 3217IYE
Crucial M4 32GB msata
Samsung ram memory 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800,1600MHz
INTEL WiFi Centrino Advanced-N 6235, Dual-Band + Bluetooth 4.0
(all from amazon)

so tiny and FAST and with high WAF!

booting to openelec (3.1.5) take 10 seconds!

at boot (first 3 seconds) is very noisy (scram jet..) but on idle or playing some video is very silent (no audible from 1 meter)

playing SD avi took 3% of cpu
playing FHD (mkv, pass trough for hd audio) on VAAPI took 10/20% of cpu

serving from a nfs sharing (on LAN) on ubuntu server

NOTE for Simrec fanatics.. using WOL and Yatse it is very simply to boot from cold start. Love it

strongly suggest to use openelenc 3.1.5 at least or you get artifact on play

one of best pure htpc buy

BHH

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - nnank76 - 2013-08-07

hey peeps,

I've just bought the AC 7260 to put in to my NUC (DC3217IYE) running windows 7 64 bit. currently I've been running it through a belkin accesspoint and streaming movies from my Nas4Free box. There is quite a lot of lag which I've identified to the access point hence buying the wireless card.

I'm struggling to get the drivers to work as intel haven't released drivers for Windows 7 only windows 8. Has anyone else had this problem?

Anyone else been able to get it to work?

cheers

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - Mlody - 2013-08-07

do you think its possible to install this in a car? I cant find any info if or people did it.

It draws 10-12W idle and up to 42W full load, is it possible to run it in car without draining the battery?

please pm, email or anything I really am thinking of creating movie theater in my car Smile

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - ironlung - 2013-08-07

Ok, I'm going here to see if anyone can help me. I understand it's probably not directly related to the NUC as I have searched for issues and I simply cannot find People having this issue. My issue is simply that everything is choppy no matter what I play. Live streaming or playback Movies from my network. I have the i3 With dual HDMI, intel mSSD and 8gb RAM. Whenever I try to either play a dvd iso or 720p mkv from my network it goes directly Down to 4 fps. Whenever I try to stream a live channel from nrk.no through the nrk nett tv addon in xbmc repo it goes directly Down to 4fps. Same With any streams from its Archive. I am running frodo 12.2, the same as I have on an apple tv 2 which Works fine except for the live streaming which I was told was a hardware issue.

I ran debugging but I don't really know what it says. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be super Grateful.

you didnt mention what OS you are running?

Also you mentioned the problems occur over network streaming, are you wired or wireless, what network hardware is involved?

What if you copy the DVD iso and mkv files to the local HDD in the NUC, or read them off a external drive or USB stick?

These arent solutions but this information is needed to try to understand your problem more clearly

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - ironlung - 2013-08-07

Hi, I am very sorry I totally forgot it. I am running Windows 8 Pro on it. I am using cabled gigabit ethernet. Everything I mentioned is not a problem outside XBMC. I can watch NRK nett tv through internet explorer fine and I can stream the movies via my network through VLC fine when being outside XBMC. I'll copy a couple of files directly to my SSD just to check but I was thinking that it was probably something within XBMC being the issue as everything outside seems to work perfect.

What audio receiver are you using and are you connected over HDMI? What audio settings are you using? Make sure its WASAPI rather than DirectSound

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC possibilities - ironlung - 2013-08-07

I really have to thank you. That made the trick!! I had the NUC hooked up to an LCD monitor while configuring xbmc before taking it out in the living room. So when I checked for audio output it said it didn't recognize any devices obviously. I then hooked it up to a TV I have in the office (I did try it yesterday as well) and then checked again and it was set to HDMI. I chose WASAPI and now everything gets 25FPS. Thank you good Sir, Beast among men.
