Help with Video stuttering - nassaujts - 2012-09-28

Ok so I finally got the HDMI sound to work out of my GT430.... WHAT A PAIN IN THE A**!!!

This is a new set up so I am not sure what I should be checking but the video is stuttering....

The build is
Intel 2.4 GHZ Q6660 Quad Core
1 gig ram
Ubuntu OS
XBMC Eden 11
GT430

I am using the HDMI out from the GT430 and connecting it to a Pioneer VSH-01THX that is connected to a Pioneer Elite Kuro. I know the TV can handle anything....

I will post a log if someone tells me how.

Thanks in advance. I wouldn't be able to set this up without this forum.

RE: Help with Video stuttering - DDDamian - 2012-09-28

Not a Linux guy here, but often video stutters are actually caused by audio issues. Only a log will tell us.

RE: Help with Video stuttering - nassaujts - 2012-09-28

Do you know how I would create and post the log?

RE: Help with Video stuttering - nassaujts - 2012-09-28

Ok I figured out how to create the log but when I tried to post it I got an error that it was to long.
So frustrating...

RE: Help with Video stuttering - nassaujts - 2012-09-28

Ok so I found pastie.....
Here is the link to the log file.

PLEASE HELP....My wife is starting to think this is a waste of time.

RE: Help with Video stuttering - DDDamian - 2012-09-28

Looks like Pulse is not present on your setup:
21:19:33 T:2845834048 ERROR: PulseAudio: Failed to connect context

Not really my area of expertise (forum is full of Linux audio setup woes and I'm a windows dev) but that looks like the heart of the matter.

RE: Help with Video stuttering - nassaujts - 2012-09-28

I thought that wasn't needed.... I removed it when trying to get the HDMI audio to work.

RE: Help with Video stuttering - DDDamian - 2012-09-28

Again, not a Linux guy, and Pulse should not be needed, but your build is looking for it. The top part of your log is missing so no version info and other details which would be useful.

Would recommed you get the latest version possible and also enquire in this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=128298

RE: Help with Video stuttering - wsnipex - 2012-09-28

Ok, seems you are running the official debian/ubuntu Eden package with external libraries.

21:19:33 T:2867088192 DEBUG: OutputPicture - change configuration. 1920x1080. framerate: 23.98. format: VDPAU

First of all enable "adjust display refresh to match video" in video settings.
Second, I suggest you look here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=137481 for a proper 23,976 modeline
Third, you might want to upgrade to a nightly with improved vdpau support. see http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=116996&pid=960883#pid960883

edit: I wonder why your TV supposedly doesn't support 60Hz as the log tells us.
you might want to check by running /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc-xrandr -q

RE: Help with Video stuttering - nassaujts - 2012-09-28

Thanks for trying to help.
I am running the full ubuntu desktop and I installed XBMC through the Software center . It says Eden 11 when I start up. I can post the top on the Log file if it will help.

I already tried with "adjust display refresh to match video" on in the video settings. I believe this was on when I created the log.

My tv should support 60Hz. It is still considered one of the best TVs ever made.

Are there setting that I need to adjust in Ubuntu to tell if what the TV is capable of doing?

I am going to read those other threads today.

RE: Help with Video stuttering - wsnipex - 2012-09-28

it might be your AVR. Try to connect to the TV directly and pastebin the output of /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc-xrandr -q

RE: Help with Video stuttering - nassaujts - 2012-09-28

I just ran xrandr -q when it is still connected to the AVR and I get this replay. I don't see why the AVR wouldn't pass through 60hz. It is a Pioneer VSH-01TXH
Is is possible that the AVR is able to do it but the video card doesn't know it?
Connecting directly to the TV will take away Bitstreaming audio... Right?

Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 288 x 175, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 1920 x 1080
default connected 1920x1080+0+0 0mm x 0mm
1920x1080 50.0 51.0 52.0 53.0 54.0*
1680x1050 55.0 56.0

RE: Help with Video stuttering - wsnipex - 2012-09-28

if those are really all supported modes, then its not good. Obviously you'd want 23,976p, 24p, and ideally 25p.
As I said, pastebin the complete output, then do the same without the AVR

RE: Help with Video stuttering - nassaujts - 2012-09-28

Here is the AVR xrandr -q - I am not home so I am doing all of this remotely so I can't test it without the AVR.
http://pastebin.com/mNJiUsYg

I don't think it is possible that my AVR wouldn't support that but what do I know. I am searching online about my AVR but I can't find anything that talks about inputs at 60Hz. I do know it upscales to 1080p at 60Hz.

Thanks again for helping me.

RE: Help with Video stuttering - nassaujts - 2012-09-28

I found this on another site: They are talking about my AVR

Yes, both do."

I am really lost.
