I tested the plugin with OE 6.0.1 and got it working although I am using a Intel Atom based HTPC.

Ye
I have tested the plugin with OpenElec 5.0.8 on Raspberry Pi 2. I could not get it working with OE 6.0.1 and made an issue about that.
Are you having the same problem as described in the ffmpeg bug tracker? If you have a different problem could you create an issue to GitHub?

To your other question, yes it should be possible to watch the live channels as well. I have not tested it, but could look into that if that is something that should be included in the plugin.

I think you should create a bug report in the Openelec bug tracker.

Or see if the problem is gone in the more current builds.

I've been testing hirsivajas version of the API-plugin, and I can get some of the kids stuff to play, but most other content (e.g. Poirot or Shetland) don't play. All I get from the Kodi log is that Kodi fails to create demuxer. Using Openelec 6.0.3 legacy nvidia.

Ps. The API-key come now automatically when you submit the request to the yle site. All you have to do before is to create free yle account.

Pps. I tried looking at the Yle tutorials for the API, but I'm no coder, but did I understand correctly, that by using the services from the API, you could also get the live-streams of Yle channels? This would rock, if it could be implemented before Rio De Janeiro 2016 olympics. Yes!!!

I checked the ffmpeg bug, and it doesn't seem familiar, so I think it is different. I'd like to know, if people who report that they get the addon to work, get all the videos to play or just some. My case is that some of the videos work and some not, and that there doesn't seem to be any relation to video categories/lenght/etc for the video to play. Sometimes I get error message about not being able to play the content and recommendation for checking the kodi log, but not always.

I'll try to increase the log level of the kodi and see what I can get from there, and register a Github account for submitting the bug, but it might take at least week before I have again time to fiddle with my machines...

And Yes, ofcourse everybody wants the ability to watch the live channels, at least all the people inside my head...

This addon is now working for me (OE 6.0.198-Intel-_EGL@asus Chromebox). However most of the videos don't work. Subtitles work.

You wished to watch the olympics, well Yle has not provided access to news and sports programs through the API for some reason so no Rio unless they lift these restrictions from the API Sad. All non-live content can be already watched simultaneously to the tv broadcast with the plugin. They are listed in their respective categories and the whole episodes can be watched as soon as the tv airing starts.

RE: [RELEASE] Finnish TV: YleAreena and Ruutu (Video) plugins - Huxely - 2016-03-04

I posted the issue on the Github.

https://github.com/Hemmu/plugin.video.areena/issues/6

Now that I read the debug log, I think it might be the same issue as the ffmpeg bug, because there is the "HTTP error 403 forbidden", but I really can't tell for sure. But wouldn't the ffmpeg bug cause all the videos to be unplayable, and not just some? I tried, but could not find if the fixed version of ffmepg is in OE 6.0.3, can you find this out? The bug was marked closed 5 months ago.

And what comes to the live streams, do you think, Yle blanks or shuts down the livestream when the program info changes to News/Sports or could the livestreams be way of circumventing the current restrictions by watching the news and sportcoverage live. In my opinion watching both types in live is the only way. I remember someone in this thread wanting to watch the 20:30 news from Kodi.

(edit: few typos)

RE: [RELEASE] Finnish TV: YleAreena and Ruutu (Video) plugins - teepean - 2016-03-04

Ffmpeg was updated to 2.6.4 on July 29 2015. This on 6.0 branch.

https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/commit/477d15fb2363ee4de9e9da24cb75ded07feb8613

On master ffmpeg is version 2.8.6.

EDIT: I cannot find the bug from 2.6 branch, maybe I am missing something?

RE: [RELEASE] Finnish TV: YleAreena and Ruutu (Video) plugins - hirsivaja - 2016-03-04

I added some new features to the plugin.

1. Don't show videos that are watchable only from Finland. This is found from the settings menu. @Huxely, try if you can watch all the videos that are available worldwide
2. List sub-categories. The view for example for 'Series and Movies' now shows the available sub-categories like 'Comedy', 'Finnish series' etc.
3. Play radio programs. Content from YLE's radio channels can also be played. This includes radio broadcasts and some video clips.

I could not figure out how to watch live channels through the API. I don't know if it is not possible or only missing documentation.

I am not sure what is being put into the OpenElec since they are applying some patches on top of the 2.6.4 release. I will try updating to the master version of OpenElec and see if the problem is fixed in that.

RE: [RELEASE] Finnish TV: YleAreena and Ruutu (Video) plugins - Huxely - 2016-03-05

I'll test the international videos next wednesday, when I get back home and report back.

In the mean time, I continue to pester you all with the idea of watching live channels. I was reading the API documentation page http://developer.yle.fi/api_docs.html
and saw the "Get a service" where the info of yle-teema was retrieved. I was thinking could the channel name (from the "Get services) and media id (from the "Get a service) be used to retrieve the encrypted url of the livestream? Just a thought, because again, I'm no coder.

RE: [RELEASE] Finnish TV: YleAreena and Ruutu (Video) plugins - hirsivaja - 2016-03-05

I upgraded the plugin to version 2.0.0. Added instructions to get the API keys with the YLE account and the possibility to add the keys through the settings menu.
See https://github.com/hirsivaja/plugin.video.areena.
And download from https://github.com/hirsivaja/plugin.video.areena/archive/master.zip.

RE: [RELEASE] Finnish TV: YleAreena and Ruutu (Video) plugins - BoxFreak - 2016-03-06

It seems that when I deselect "Are you in finland" in settings, all the videos then available work. So everything unavailable outside Finland doesn't work I guess.

RE: [RELEASE] Finnish TV: YleAreena and Ruutu (Video) plugins - bitbanger - 2016-03-06

With this plugin (even latest v2.0.0) I cannot watch 'Uutisvuoto'. In debug log the message is only "No JSON object could be decoded".
The series is marked in YLE Areena as watchable abroad (and in fact the episodes are listed if 'Are you in Finland' is deselected).
Strangely a few short trailers/promos for Uutisvuoto are instead watchable with the plugin (although they are not listed in out-of-Finland mode)

I checked the patches and they do not have the bug you linked earlier.
