3) will the firmware/software etc released by geniatech for the ATV1200 work on the mygica ATV1200? should I just email them and ask maybe?

also you say " Currently is the pivos-xbmc the better version, the aspect-ratio-problem is probably the most unpleasing fault. " what is the aspect ratio problem? and is this problem on the geniatech xbmc apk or the pivos xbmc akp?

Geniatech is the manufacturer of this boxes, there are similar brands on market, like:

-Oval Elephant
-IconBIT Toucan Duo Plus http://www.iconbit.com/catalog/minipc/iconbit_toucan_duo_plus/
-mygica ATV1200 http://www.mygica.com/product.asp?id=165
-Homix HX1200 http://www.homixtech.com/products.php?pid=154&tid=12&cid=28
and others...

There they on market in different colors or cases. The firmware is always based on Geniatech. You can install the Geniatech-firmware on it. I´m owning a myGica ATV1200 with Geniatech firmware.

Aspect ratio problem: The problem currently exists in both xbmc versions. (Pivos & Geniatech) The display aspect ratio is the ratio of the width of a shape to its height - in this case is the video size fixed, the video is alway fullscreen - circles in cinema movies look like eggs...
In pivos xbmc you can edit the file attributes (as described in this thread), than you have to restart xbmc and the aspect ratio is correct. Unfortunately will these changes reset after box reboot.
In Geniatech xbmc will the same changes have without influence to aspect ratio.

Thank you for your help with the laucher..... ill give it a go when i get home.

Some of the faults i can report with the latest firmware and pivos are:

* Weather won't save my location
* Aspect ratio won't save or changes between movie files/streams.
* Remote control won't turn the machine on ?! I have to press the button on the unit.
* Iphone cannot find airplay function.
* Iphone remote can't find xbmc whilst running.

Also.... bit of xbmc topic, does anyone know to stop the NET light flashing on the front of the unit. Its very annoying !

I guess opening the box and put black electric tape over the diod would fix that Smile

ha ha.... i was thinking that.

Bit stupid that a media player has a constant flashing light on the front !

I'll get the gaffer tape on it.

Thanks

you know you can change init.rc to set the correct permissions.

It sounds like you seem to have forgotten that you have to wipe data while flashing firmware?

I wiped the data and flashed the firmware last night, no luck still. All my video is on cifs mount.

Are you sure that the upgrade was succesful? go to settings about media box and check the build number

Checked the build numbers, and all show correctly...

Xardos,

I have bought an ATV1200 and am having issues that seem like the 'aspect ratio' problem.

How do I edit the attributes you speak of? is it in android or xbmc?

The main issue I have is I am getting the oval shaped circles like in the universal studios intro at the start of universal movies (the globe is oval shaped instead of circular)

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - Leema - 2013-01-28

Here:
Quote:Here is simple workaround:
Install this on the box:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...iptmanager

Create a simple script - on lets say /data/local named aspect_fix.sh
Put this into to the script:
chmod 777 /sys/class/video/axis

do chmod 777 aspect_fix.sh (it becomes executable)

Find your script through ScriptManager app - add tags boot and script to it.

No everytime the box boots, the script manager will run that script as root, and you will not have to do it manually

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - thebearnecessit - 2013-01-28

OK thanks.

I I'm new to android (did my first SSH today) but I managed to follow those instructions.

Problem still there though; circular shapes in movies are still oval.

anyone have any clue what I could try next?

any help at all much appreciated.

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - thebearnecessit - 2013-01-29

i read this line (/sys/class/video/axis have r/w permission) earlier in the thread, how do i add the permissions that are required to this folder?

I've used ssh to navigate to the folder but don't know what to type in to sort out the permissions.

chmod something Big Grin

I tried that but it doesn't seem to make a difference, its not setting the permissions to 0777 even though I changed the script from 0664.

Unless there are multiple init.rc scripts and I'm editing the wrong one?
