Or you can just use path subs (wiki) to move your thumbnails folder to the SD card, which is what becomes so huge.

Thanks guys, which would be the most robust reliable method. I have had a play with directory bind and from what I can see it seems to of duplicated the files rather than move them.

Edit

OK its not duplicated, although the file manager sees the files on the external card and on the internal storage. The files are only actually on the external card, but are "mirrored" so they appear to be where XBMC expects to find the userdata folder on the internal storage.

Seems to do exactly what I need, thanks.

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - thebearnecessit - 2013-05-19

ok i have a couple questions about moving xbmc data to an external sdcard.

first im presuming that owners of this atv1200 are talking about moving the xbmc data to a proper external sdcard that they have inserted themselves in the external sdcard slot. is that right? reason i ask is because in my android settings it seems to have two storage spaces mentioned. xbmc already puts the userdata folder on the 2nd one but thats no use because its probably too small for most folks after a while as the thumbnails folder gets huge. all correct so far?

ok onto the proper issues. i have heard that xbmc performs faster if you have thumbnails on a fast (class 1) external sdcard. so that's what i want to do. but whats the best way of doing it. from what ive read there are 3 ways so im confused. have you tried any? is it working out ok?

heres the 3 ways i have read about:

METHOD 1 "PATH SUBS": in the xbmc advanced settings file tells xbmc to put thumbnails onto an external sdcard.
METHOD 2 "DIRECTORY BIND": move xbmc onto sdcard by using an app created by a user on XDA developers forum. try searching google or see these two threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20668905 & http://www.xbmcandroid.com/forums/jynxbox-android-hd-discussion/432.htm
METHOD 3 "TRICK ANDROID INTO USING YOU EXTERNAL SDCARD. ANDROID STILL THINKS ITS USING THE INTERNAL ONE": this involves copying everything from the internal sdcard and then using script manager to run a script on boot that tricks android into using the external sdcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078603

what do you good folks think is the best way?

That's the link but take note of my directions on xbmcandroid.. As a native English speaker and writer that is a little dyslexic even I had trouble reading the instructions as they are written back to front..thus my dyslexic mind worked it out..:P

I also would be interested in input on this..
As far as I can see, due to the fact that a lot of GS3 owners are using DB on their phones to shift game data.. Then you have assume that there is no decrease in speeds then if it was on the internal memory.. Not a gamer myself so haven't verified this..
So running with this theory as we know gamers would be first to complain thus I opted for DB to manage the swoop out to external sdcard.
But then taking it further as on the Asus TF101`s that where 16g internal. There where scripts running round that where swooping out to 32g sdcards and treating the sdcard as internal memory..

Going off topic a little, this is why I am a little peeved that geniatech has not released source on the Kernels, as if they did then we could have talented people actually fixing these short comings.. In fact I am more then willing to pay for a 16g version of this box so that I am not worried about basic loading of programs. I have contacted them directly myself as I live in China and have had my Chinese staff ring..but at this stage they are still willing to cut off their nose on this issue..

That's why personally I am heading towards a HTPC as a main box and leave these little suckers as bedroom play toys..

I have cifs manager working so i can mount my network smb shares. working a treat except they dont automatically mount when the box boots.

anyone know how to mount smb shares on boot?

Just to know: Does anybody of you have problems with frozen picture and the sound ongoing for appr. 3-5 sec?

Picture runs on high speed until it is in sync with teh sound again. This happens every appr. 10 minutes ....

Do you have the same problem??

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - Swindiff - 2013-05-21

If I fast forward I have to pause then play again or the picture stays frozen and the sound continues. Not a massive deal really.

If you're playing over wifi then the issue is to do with poor signal . To play HD you need a good 802.12 N signal ( you can see what network speed you are getting if you click on the connected Wifi Access point.)

Agree..
I haven't had that problem on both the ATV1200 and or the ATV3000.

I live on the 15th floor of a fairly condensed set of buildings and it doesn't help that China telecom when setting up the Internet are dropping in box's that push ITV plus are wireless routers.. Thus in my apartment I had two extra pppoe wifi networks going that I don't even use.. so with this in mind those around me also have networks congested into the 4-6 bandwidth wifi channel as most wouldn't have a clue how to change them.

Anyway, there is a android program you can use on the box or your phone called 'wifi analyzer'.. it will give an accurate pie chart of everything around you.. then you can work out which one to switch to.. as this may help if you are in a congested area.. Every little bit helps..

Also on a side note: I have done a mod on the ATV3000 wifi reciever. Actually have replaced it with a bigger and what I would say is a better one.. and have found a solid increase in performance on Wifi.
I have set it up in the bedroom as a secondary media center and even through its single core at 850mhz its flying.. streaming media both Film and music no worries..

Will post pictures of the mod when I get time.. As it is feely easy to do.. just need to make sure the connection wire is long enough and that the slide on clip is correctly attached.. I pulled the aerial off a old wireless modem I had kicking around then got a lovely little lass at the computer mall to solder the connection clip and wire extention together..

No issues here (i play mostly HD content over USB-HDD).

I am using a USB hard drive. Using a USB Stick I had the same issues...

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - fluxcapacitor - 2013-05-22

I've made a quick demo video.

I've now found some files take a few seconds for audio and video to sync back together after seeking but not all.

The built in media centre app seems fine.
