So I was wondering would you guys recommend this box for someone who never used XBMC before and what is the general consensus here in regards to the recommended software setup for this box? It is difficult to keep track of all different software combinations that has been posted, so what works best?

Hey. Yes we could do with multiple threads to address multiple issues. It is a mine of info now this thread, but requires some digging.

To answer your question I would totally recommend this box (I have the Sumvision model) as I have now replaced an HTPC in my sitting room with this box. I'm single and watch around 25 shows a week plus some re-runs and movies so it gets a good work out.
I've posted an update recently on the previous page and as per that detail, the most recent firmware with ethernet patch has proven to be near flawless for me.
At only £60 it is totally worth a shot imo. The people here seem happy to help each other too, so if you get stuck you can always ask.

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - rl4engx - 2013-07-04

If anyone is having trouble getting Directory Bind to work, make sure the "Alternate DB mgmt" is ticked in prefs, and the text boxes read:

S: /sdcard/external_sdcard/DB/
T: /sdcard/Android/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/

Copy the files once you've done this, then select this new rule and "Bind Checked", and make sure the switch at the bottom right is on.

If you don't select 'alternative DB mgmt', when you start xbmc you won't have your library and plugins. :O

Yeah I know the Sumvision you're talking about; the Cyclone Android X2. Saw it on Ebuyer for £60. I gather you're using the spi_MX_20130510 and MX_20130506 and the XBMC apk taken from Mygica_A6_20130610 firmware update mentioned in the other post. Is that 4.1 or 4.2 Jelly Bean? I see poster dgcruzing bricked their due to an update. What's caused by an automatic update?

No, I loaded the 4.2.2 update as per pdf instructions.
used it with XBMC for a few hours.. loaded in some addons, but had no video playing as per some other reports.
Let XBMC load its media content to the DB (over night). .
Morning, box was locked up.
hard reset. (shut off by button)
Tried to boot that night and looks like had a corrupted partition.
Thus the "0.00B internal storage bug"

but at this stage have brought the box back to life but having trouble down grading it as its throwing this error..
Anyone know a work around or do i have to go further back to say the 03 or 01 firmwares?

Maybe this can help?

http://androidforums.com/5575844-post2144.html

(just noticed that you said "thanks" to that post back in March. Dude, you are everywhere!Smile)

To downgrade though, you must first force install an older SPI. Just boot into recovery and install this: http://www.geniatech.com/down-eng/androidtvbox/update_spi_MX_20130510.zip (rename to img first, so recovery can see the file).

Then you should be able to install the http://www.geniatech.com/down-eng/androidtvbox/update_MX_20130506.zip

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - snoopy78 - 2013-07-05

i had the same issue too, so i used recovery mode to switch back to older version
1st downgrade the SPI and then the FW....
worked for me

Yeah firmware as you stated (4.1). I have automatic updates turned off - too many times automatic updates have broken something (across various platforms). There are still a couple of niggly issues but nothing that I can't put up with. Worst case you sometimes need to stop playback and then resume. Not the end of the world and doesn't happen very often.
Can't comment on upgrade/downgrade issues. I've flashed the firmwares via recovery and applied the ethernet path from within the OS with the Upgrade app. All I need is for XBMC to work flawlessly; I don't really care about much else.

So on the 05 firmware you flashed the ethernet patch?..
Notice any differences?

Found the thread where you got that APK from: http://forum.androidgadget.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=226.

Have you looked at their MX boxes they are selling? I wonder anyone here has had experience with them and if they are any good?

Let us know how you get on with that DroidTV APK.

This thread has been very insightful. What other niggly issues have you experienced with the firmware?

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - davilla - 2013-07-05

Beware when flashing geniatech boxes. Generally, their firmware come with a SPI flash in addition to the main firmware flash. The SPI flash can alter partitions. For example, Jellybean 4.2 moves from one flash form to another... You must flash to the new SPI then REBOOT to have it take effect, then you can flash the new main firmware.

ATV1200 not responding.... - bluemeane - 2013-07-05

So I have a weird thing happening with my ATV and it is fairly frustrating.

I will leave it alone for a while (Overnight, half a day or so) and when i come back and turn on the TV and receiver, I get nothing. A black screen. And the box has one single green light lit. And I can't find any documentation as to what the heck the LED's mean. When it is like this, nothing will wake it up or bring it back on. I am forced to reboot it (Unplug and then plug it back in) in order for it to wake back up...

What is going on?? Any Ideas? Help please!!!! Big Grin

When I go into XBMC and look at the settings (System) under storage it shows only 1 GB and under /sdcard0/ What gives? I have the directory bind in place pointing to my SD card. Why doesn't it see all the extra spaceHuh Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Geniatech ATV1200 and XBMC hardware decoding - bluemeane - 2013-07-05

I am looking for the security settings for this box. I have installed and app "power button" and it won't let me un-install it. When i go to do so the "un-install" button is greyed out. When i look up how to get rid of it this is what I find:

Uninstall : Uncheck "Power Button" at "Device Admin Setting".
2.3 : "Settings" => "Location & security" => "Select device administrators"
3.X : "Settings" => "Location & security" => "Device administrators"
4.X : "Settings" => "Security" => "Device administrators"

Only I do not see "Settings" => "Security" => under settings.

Any help?? I tried to do a wipe and re-image but I can't even seem to get the box to go into that either.

Hate to say it..but these boxs are not stable with the manufactures firmware.
I also have problems still..and have had problems with shut down and remote buttons..

Edit: Not to be too hard on them as they are trying to bring to market a low end android box that can run a feely heavy program like XBMC.
Actually when its working the other Streaming programs in the market place like PPTV, PPSTV, YouKu, Sky.Fm, some stand alone western tv streaming apk's and the Synology Video/Music apk's work fine with the internal NAS.

At the moment i am fighting with partitions i dont think are correctly formated after the 0 memory bug.
As yet i cant see my internal partition and or path it for DB..
Even using rootexplorer which is the old faithful i am not seeing internal android.. data...org.xbmc

I will post back later as I, if possible want someone to screen snap thier partitions using a program i will past the link too.
I want to see if mine are screwed or not.

I have spent too much time on this box..its really not worth the man hours..compared to the win7/64 HTPC i have setup in main room..this little thing only about $100 more just does its job..if i cant get this atv1200 settled...then i will ditch it and get another one of these minipc's for the bedroom.

Edit.
Here is a great little program to see your partitions..
Partition Table
Here's mine at the moment, but as said, I have problems.
Image
If someone without troubles can screensnap theirs and post that would be great so that I can compare.

I think I am going to have to go back a few firmware's and then step up as I get back the ability to access internal again..
as i know i was able to before as I had DB going and was able to find the necessary file structures..
at the moment it looks like everything is getting housed in "Data" and the box is not giving me access to this..

Also there's something screwy going on with the box seeing the sdcard as programs are not seeing it .. i.e Apex launcher, which normally I can just load my backuped programs then load the apex backup and all the homes screens are back to normal.. but its saying sdcard is not loaded.. but.. of course its loaded.

Infact it comes back to that I am not able to see "internal"-"Android" ++++ to have access to things in there..
but dam it I can see root and others.. so its like the "Data" partition is hidden and unaccessable, which is where all the program data goes too.
Also I can confirm it when I tried to do a screensnap using the Nav bar..it thru an error saying that it could not write the file..
so.. all in all.. not out of the woods yet.. Painful experience..
