What do you guys think?
Is this going to create problems? My only option would be to get a smaller heatsink right?

Currently idling at 62c

Plastic is non conductive, so unless the PSU is creating a point of pressure on the motherboard, you should be fine.

Alright, I'll keep an eye on the temps. Thanks!

High temp is probably due to lack of air flow.....CPU fan appear to be right underneath PSU fan too....

Or maybe a smaller power supply. Smile

Depending on your system specs, you might be able to use a PicoPSU.

The PSU and heatsink are likely fighting each other. A lower profile heatsink and a 120mm fan on the side would do a lot to help temps.

Thanks guys.
Yes indeed, the psu fan is right against the cpu heatsink fan.
However, are they actually fighting each other, as Dougie says? My inkling was that the psu fan was pulling air out of the box, and obviously the cpu heatsink is pushing air away from the cpu. In that sense, the air flow is working in the same direction, is it not?

Dougie. I purchased a 120mm fan, but i dont see any way it can fit. As far as I can tell by reading reviews online, the only spot to do it is where the HDD is sitting (so its one or the other). Can you confirm this, or am i wrong?

I am still a bit bothered by how close the heatsin and psu are. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive but very low profile heatsink?

I dont know about downgrading the psu, it's either 250w or 300w, so I would worry about going any lower...

thoughts?

For how to mount the 120mm fan see here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=111746&pid=905969#pid905969

The PSU fan is pulling out while the CPU fan is pushing down so that's how they would fight each other.

Oh! I assumed the CPU fan would be pulling air away from the heatsink? That's seems odd to me.

I took the HDD out and put the fan in its place, having trouble finding the fan header though...

anyone know?

i will prob have to drill some holes to put the hdd right beside where hte fan will be.

It's right next to the CPU fan header:

Thanks Dougie, I have the case open. I see it. Two problems, it is a 3 pin, and my fan is 4pin. I read that they still work if you mod the fan plug a bit. So i cut off the plastic "guides" on the fan cable so that i could fit it into the 3 pin header. Follow me so far?

When i plug it in the fan doesn't spin at all. I'm thinking its because i wasnt accessing the right holes on the fan plug, but unfortunately, the mobo didnt give enough room between the two fan headers for me to have to case fan plug overlap between the two headers. Do you follow me?

Is it possible to flip the plug of the fan around and plug it in the other way? To do this i'd need to cut off the guide on the mobo header itself.

I managed to jam it in by pressing harder...
Does this look safe?

ARg. even when i do that, fan doesnt spin for more than a second before stopping. Defective?

RE: Pictures: HTPC Heatsink touching PSU - dio_free - 2013-02-24

Seems defective. Tried the fan on my gaming rig and it does the same thing.
