Specifically I as of right now have no on disk media, and I want to arrange channels rather than just have autotune do it's thing.

That is to say have the USA video/live TV plugin channels arrangeable (channel 1 as ABC, two as fox, 3 whatever, and so on) followed by channels made from my super favorites.

IE a youtube shows channel that's nostalgia critic, avgn, Scott Manley, red vs blue, Ben Heck, and a few others.

Comedy that has I love lucy, golden girls, different standup acts, etc.

And so on. I was thinking I could get this effect by having super favorites for channel_1, channel_2, and so on and dump programs in each.

However when I tried I got a black screen and what sounds like sports radio. Guessing the NFL or ESPN streams screw up.

Pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Read the first three posts, there are some excellent templates for manual config of settings2.xml. That will be especially helpful for your youtube channels. Also there is the built in tool under PTVL settings. Finally refer to Milkman's guide (linked on page 1). That should get you started.

As for rearranging, that's as simple as going into settings2.xml and channel the channel numbers for each config.

If they are all in the same directory then setting up a directory channel using the built in tool would be the easiest way. If not you could use a smart playlist with a "plot contains 'Christmas' or 'Holiday' or 'Merry', etc" rule.

That said, I think it would be a great feature if there was an advanced setting which hides/unhides channels based on time of the year. For example, a Christmas channel could be hidden every month except for December, a Halloween channel every month except for October. Possibly even sports channels hidden during the sports' off-season.

How about the community get involved? I'll let you guys decide... present me with a list of youtube playlist, each playlist must be divided into a single season... (no halloween in a xmas playlist Wink)
More than one playlist per season is allowed... Content must be from TV or Movie no clips, full show that relates to the season or holiday.

At the minimum I need the following season/holidays:

Halloween
Thanksgiving
Christmas
New Year's Day
July 4th

I'll also take any other playlists for holidays i'm missing...

get the list to me by temp posting them at the community list or share them here.

Once I have a few seasons/holidays i'll create a "smart" channel to switch between seasonal shows during the month of the holiday.

Milkman's offered tools do not work in Linux. Personally it feels somewhat stupid to have to go in and manually edit when the software is close to a decade old.

But anyway. Thanks I guess.

Additionally the bumpers in milkman's post all lead to... Sketchy... Sites and or flat out don't work. Are there links to sites that don't make me feel like i'm risking badness just by being there?

Edit: Look I'm sorry if I'm coming off as crabby. You're just trying to help. My main gripe is Milkman's PDF is a bit... Jumbled feeling. It also assumes I have a windows box.

The advice on populating via super favorites looks pretty spot on immediately useful though. As is seeing plugin advice as 'populate via plugin subdirectory rather than just the plugin and call it done.'

All of it is tedious, but I guess that's why you're asking for community help.

Again, sorry for coming off as an ungrateful grouch.

You are always welcome to contribute your time coding to improve the interface or create your own channel manager... and if you can't be happy with what you have Smile

Why would you need your own bumpers? bumpers can be used automatically by setting BCT to use "Internet" sources...

Not tools, Milkman's GUIDE. It will give you all kinds of tips on how to configure things. It was written for PTV but is still largely applicable to PTVL.

While PTV may be a decade old (which I'm not sure is even true), support for it by the developer ended quite some time ago. PTVL is a forked project that began only last year and it has not reached a full release yet. Luna's plan is eventually to completely phase out the need for manual editing. It is not at that stage yet, so your options are to a) wait, or b) appreciate everything that has been done so far and get your hands a little dirty and do some manual work on your own.

Look farther down Milkman's thread. I think his own links went down but there are safe working links lower in the thread where people re-uploaded his stuff (in whole or in part). I don't know of anyone who has had any trouble with any of the sites, myself included (none of the material is of the nature that would get you in trouble anyway).

Luna and peppy are working on a new config tool that will eventually be released on linux, but right now the best options are manual config (which is not very difficult if you read the first few posts, and the built in tool (which is the best way to set up local content channels). To use the built in tool go into PTVL's settings within XBMC and configure channels.

As an addendum just wanted to thank you for trying to make this plugin stay awesome. Personal setup difficulties to one side, it's something that will help me ease family into the idea of cord cutting.

I'll try to curate a few more lists (Christmas is two playlists so far including my large personal one). Hopefully someone else will pitch in and provide some sources as well.

As an aside, will the "smart" channel idea you are planning be able to use smart playlists of local content or will it be restricted to youtube content? While the youtube content provides a good feature for the casual user it may not be best for the people most interested. Anecdotally, every time the issue has been raised throughout the thread it seemed that users were looking for a way to create a seasonal channel from their own local content.

Personally I added "#Christmas" to show plot descriptions in my library so that my playlist pulls sources from both my "Christmas Collection" show and individual holiday-themed episodes of other shows.

It was a lot of work but it integrates everything well.
