Utilite - glypto - 2013-07-15

Another candidate for low cost/low power XBMC box: http://utilite-computer.com/web/home
I wonder what do you guys think about it?

RE: Utilite - solamnic - 2013-07-15

Really good looking...

but ... with the lack of decent firmware it will be "another" android box...

and didnt see any pictures of the remote..

RE: Utilite - glypto - 2013-07-15

Well, i'ts advertised as a "desktop", so no remote included. They claim support for Ubuntu - if that includes graphic drivers, then it looks promissing.

RE: Utilite - GortWillSaveUs - 2013-07-15

These devices are beginning to be a dime a dozen.
Didn't see the price,...but even if it was only $25,...I wouldn't buy it until it was thoroughly tested and it upper limits tested.

China will be mass producing copy-cats of these devices for years to come.

RE: Utilite - Ned Scott - 2013-07-15

It's using Freescale, so a good chance this will be an excellent ARM box.

RE: Utilite - Ned Scott - 2013-07-15

The more I read about this, the better it sounds. Freescale, unlike other ARM chip makers, is a lot more open about their documentation, so they already have video hardware decoding and more. They're not focused on Android, but rather they're all about Linux. The port selection is excellent. This is not just another clone crap box.

I'm very excited about this little guy.

Bucket load of ports on this fcuker. Hope this one comes to fruition!

"Hardware video acceleration is supported on the i.MX6.
Our SW engineers are currently adapting the drivers and video frameworks to Utilite. Once complete we can test XBMC and other players."

RE: Utilite - j1nx - 2013-07-16

I like it!

mSATA support up to 512GB - I'm liking it too!

This box could actually turn out to be the holy grail...

RE: Utilite - j1nx - 2013-07-16

It is going to be my new router. Looking for ARM with dual NIC for ages (affordable ones I mean)

RE: Utilite - otaku888 - 2013-07-16

The only reservations I would have about this is that it's the same company that made the trimslice. I have one. It was rather expensive and they have more or less abandoned development for it now.

They don't even supply a working install for the latest version of ubuntu for it, and the previous version (natty) has been discontinued. You are limited to putting archlinux arm on it now which does actually have a lively community behind it.

So I would beware of buying this, as the company seems to be more adept at shifting units than at long term support.

CompuLab Unilite -$100 - thomasjay - 2013-07-17

Not sure if people have seen this:

Any thoughts on its suitability for XBMC?
