Finally ordered parts to build HTPC - PD Veeps - 2013-09-22
I've been playing around with xbmc on my old laptop and finally ready to build my htpc. I just ordered all my components. Can't wait for them all to get here and build this thing.(and cancel my directv). My wife should be happy being able to dvr her tv shows.

Already have a Harmony one I bought from a friend for $30 and a HD homerun dual I bought last year for about $70. Also have Windows 7 from my broken laptop.
Any recommendations on using this setup as some type of nas server? I would like to access movies and recorded tv shows from iphone or android tablet.

Should work fine. Just make sure to share the drives on the network, and you'll be set.
In my current set up I have a Win7 box running xbmc for my projector. And media to my other devices (files through smb, and plex)
I still plan to make a dedicated NAS in the future. But for the time being this works pretty well.

What made you choose 750GB drives? You got 1.5TB total (2 x 750GB) for ~$100 when single 3TB drives are selling for the same price.

$50 each seemed like a good price. I wanted 5400rpm drives for less noise/heat.

You paid about double ($66/TB) the common sale price ($33/TB). Even at full retail, you can get a 3TB 5400-5900RPM drive under $200 (your effective price).
Also, you didn't list an aftermarket cooler yet you bought Arctic Silver AS-5. What do you plan to use it for without a cooler? The CPU comes with a cooler with TIM already on it.

No Aftermarket cooler. That's my fault. I copied my order list before I removed the compound. I was going to get an aftermarket one but found out the stock cooler is sufficient.
I want 2 drives so in the event of hdd crash, I don't lose all my ripped DVDs, etc. I'm not saying I don't have backups on physical DVDs. I figure I can rip a bunch of DVDs and split them up between 2 drives. That's my thought process. That was the cheapest I found per GB for 2 2.5" drives under $100 total. I'll see how it works out.

Ah, ok, I see. I wasn't even thinking 2.5" drive since the ML03B has room for 2 x 3.5".

It won't take long to fill 750GB. You can't add more to that case. If you can somehow exchange them for a pair of larger 3.5" HDDs, it'll be a better deal and you'll have more space.

I can't fit 2 3.5 in my case but I can try to return them and get a 2or 3 tb 5900rpm drive.

Ok so I'm returning the 2 750 gb harddrives. What is recomended for 1 quiet, reliable 2 or 3 TB 3.5" harddrive?

I have a mix of WD, Seagate and HGST drives, 7200, 5900 and 5400 RPM, desktop and "NAS" in my server. Some are as much as two years old. None is particularly better, louder or more or less reliable so far than any other. I would just get whatever is on sale. Sometimes the best deals are external drives that you pop out of the casing.
In that review I linked, they installed 2 x 3.5" drives and an SSD. It has a good video of their build in the ML03B.
