That's your problem. All you get is a black surface, nothing else. Follow the howto. We had a reason to package ourselves.

Btw. we recently switched to ffmpeg 2.x (thx to wsnipex and fernetmenta). Happy testing for proper HEVC / VC-1 interlaced (sw decoding support). No changes for VDPAU obviously, just informal.

I finally got vdpau working, needed to format disk completely and reinstall.
oibafs ppa is not working as well, I only had sound without video.
unfortunately I encouter the same sound problems I had with XVBA and fglrx, sound is interrupted heavily by scraping/squeaking. no problems with that on windows+xbmc.
any ideas about that?
I already tried your marantz.edid (I own an SR5007) but no change

@schnappi -- question, are you using passthrough?
i believe this is a known issue with linux + passthrough
i too am having the same issues.

It's not a linux issue. It works fine for me on my intel / nvidia setups. It should also work with the correct mesa packages on AMD hardware (currently those in wsnipex test ppa, which is again the stable mesa version 10.0.2).

I just updated the mesa ppa:
- Mesa was _downgraded_ to 10.0.2 stable
- LLVM upgraded to 3.4 stable
- X drivers and glamor updated to recent git versions

i have not encountered any passthrough issues after installing my AMD Kavari box following the howto with XBMC and using DTS. of course no long-time-testing but watched 2 movies without any interruptiono whatsoever.

I am using not an APU but a dedicated AMD HD7850 gpu. I have no idea why I face this strange bug but it happens neither with my integrated intel hd and vaapi nor with the HD7850 on win7 using xvba.
any suggestions for logs? I get no obvious error message...

just a small note: with "software encoding" meaning without vdpau sound is fine in ubuntu.
latest update of wsnipex mesa didn't help either...

sorry, i should have mentioned that i do not use audio over HDMI but I use optical out so my working configuration might not say anything.

Hi! I'm having an issue with XBMC, the problem is that when i try to play some videos nothing happens, but other videos work without any problem. When I enable the GUI debug i can see that when i try to play the video XBMC starts using a lot of RAM ( like if it has loaded the video ) and never decrease the usage. I tried using the multi-thread mode, to disable the hw acceleration but nothing changed.
I have a Zotac Nano AD12 with an AMD E2 1800 and i'm using Ubuntu 13.10. I followed all the steps in the guide so i'm using ppa:wsnipex/mesa, ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-fernetmenta-master and Kernel 3.13.1
The video use H264 - MPEG - 4 AVC video codec and MPEG ACC audio codec. I can play it without any problem with other players.
