Still, I wonder I should she something related to remote control @ XBMC input settings. Im not sure how else to test whether my CIR is working correctly.

Great working on getting the various issues with this device fixed.
How is 23.976Hz? Has anyone verified using MPC?
Has anyone replaced the standard case with a passive one? Can it be cooled passively (I know such cases exist, but how reliable is it?) Are they compatible with haswell boards?
If you buy the bare board, do you need to buy anything else e.g. psu?
How noisy is the fan during playback?
Is the i5 good enough for dolphin with it's HD5000 graphics?

Honestly I can't see the difference from my Ivy Bridge NUC, but I haven't looked side by side. 24p playback is smooth as far as I can tell (my TV supports it @ 4x24 = 96Hz). What's MPC?

I'm noise sensitive, it's inaudible during playback. However, the fans ramp up during heavy load and can be noisy depending on your BIOS settings. The CPU runs hot so if you let them, the fans will make noise. You can ignore heat and tell the fans to spin as low as you want though.

Haven't played around with dolphin though, but I can use all libretro cores with opengl shaders (including PSX/N64). My i5 Ivy Bridge NUC wasn't performing well with LBA2 in Dosbox, the Haswell NUC runs it perfectly even with shader applied.
Not sure how much power Dolphin needs but I believe this thing will handle anything you throw at it with regards to emulators. I believe the HD5000 is capable of playing CS source at decent speeds, so it's pretty fast. The MBA has the same Haswell CPU so that's a somewhat good reference.

OE is using lirc for the remote control support. The command irw at a shell prompt should show you what it's receiving from a remote. I've confirmed this will display commands from my MCE remote just fine and I'd expect will at least let you know if commands are being received.

Watch Amazon, be prepared to overpay. I had one in my basket at a reasonable cost and by the time I was ready to push the button it was removed from sale! If you buy from Amazon directly it's backordered but they will ship when in stock and if the price drops give you the savings. I ended up with an i3 model and so far so good though when I eventually buy a second it will almost certainly be i5 for the added power\peace of mind.

Which build(s) of OpenElec exactly is everyone using? I see Imyllari's Dropbox build r16441 but have also grabbed a nightly from http://xbmcnightlybuilds.com/openelec-generic-x86_64-r16441-download/
Both purport to be r16441 builds which is slightly confusing although swapping builds on OE doesn't appear to hard so I'll test both if need be. Just trying to get a sense of which is being used. I'm hunting a Gotham build in hopes of getting my OE system in synch with my other system built from source that are using a different database than Frodo. I'm also compiling OE from source but I doubt it will be what I end up using.

Now THIS is what I want to do... I'm looking to the i5 as we also watch NetFlix as well as shows that there are no plugins for. I also have a 1TB internal drive with my movie collection on. What exactly do I need to get the i5 running with Win7 pro, XBMC and control with iPhones via bluetooth/wifi.?

NewEgg now has the i3 NUC listed - $30 cheaper than what I paid via Amazon (argh!).

I've managed to find Gotham builds of OpenElec -> http://sources.openelec.tv/tmp/image/ (and http://xbmcnightlybuilds.com/openelec-generic-x86_64-r16441-download/) however the modprobe for the remote fails fatal as the nuvotron-cir module appears to be missing. Is there a workaround for this or have the builds simply dropped this module for some reason? Near as I can find the 3.12.0 kernel is supposed to have this module so I'm a little puzzled. Has anyone else tried to get a Gotham build working on the nuc?
Overall the Gotham build appears to be working okay for me to include the sound but I need to solve the remote issue for this to be viable.

Oh good grief - yes you're right! Thankfully I had copied\pasted the autorun posted earlier and THAT at least was right! Talking in IRC with lmyalla and it looks like the module isn't loading properly for some reason.

I just downloaded one of those images and tried to get it working in virtualbox, but no luck.
I am guessing that you got a new kernel with the latest openelec and some devices nodes have changed. I assume you are using the commands in http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=176718&pid=1547157#pid1547157
Take a look around in /sys/bus/acpi/devices/ and see where the node lies now (assuming it is there).
