Nightly build, constant reboot cycle - umtauscher - 2014-02-05

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry, but I need your help. After months of updating to your montly builds I tried to update to the nightly of today (02-05-2014)
Unfortunately the ATV keeps rebooting after that..
Is there anything I can do to stop this and perhaps reinstall the latest monthly without having to try to re-jailbreak the thing?
Any help would be greatly apreciated.
Cheers

Umtauscher

Have you tried powering it on with ethernet disconnected and/or wifi router turned off? A while back I remember there was some reboot-loop issue, and temp disconnecting the internet allowed the ATV2 to stop rebooting long enough for a fix. Not sure on the details, though.

Hi

I have the same problem.

I have used the nightlies for months, then a week ago i updated again. Result constant restarts.

So i jailbreaked it again. And installed a nightly. Restarts again.

Second rejailbreak: Frodo works. Installing Gotham nightly equals restarts.

As per your advice, i turned off my router ie no network to the atv. Still restarts.

It looks like somethings changed in the nightly build around 1-2 weeks ago.

Jens.

If it is really caused by xbmc (have to test if i get some spare tome at some point) you might have luck with this:

ssh root@<ipofappletv> rm /Applications/XBMC.frappliance/XBMC

This will delete the XBMC binary and leads to the situation that the ios doesn't load it anymore. The timing of this ssh command is the problem - there might be only a small spot where the ssh is available (if even).

Thanks, but I didn't find the proper time window that this would succeed.I just simply couldn't log in.
Fortunately rejailbreaking was a success for me. I just installed the last monthly again. I didn't wanted to take any risks.

Well just fyi - installed latest nightly on my atv2 (5.3) and don't experience a reboot loop ...

RE: Nightly build, constant reboot cycle - umtauscher - 2014-02-07

Ok, I'm on 5.2 now. Perhaps I will try again tomorrow.
Thanks

I've been using the monthly builds on my Atv2 Black for awhile now; tried to make the jump to Daily as suggested and the same thing happened to me...twice now. I tried all the tricks too, the only way out was a re-install (jb) which I had to do with version 9.3 of Season Pass because I'm running Lion.
I was also running 5.2 so maybe that's problem.

RE: Nightly build, constant reboot cycle - umtauscher - 2014-02-07

Well I would try another ATV Version but I don't have the suitable shsh for that.

RE: Nightly build, constant reboot cycle - Memphiz - 2014-02-07

5.3 is still signed by apple iirc - have a look at forum.firecore.com. I would need a crashreport or syslog from thos reboots (i know nobody of you can provide those ...)

RE: Nightly build, constant reboot cycle - umtauscher - 2014-02-08

I don't know about that. The last shsh TinyUmbrella gets signed is 5.2
So I don't know about 5.3 - I just don't want to risk it.

Add one more person to the list of users whose ATV2 is endlessly rebooting to the APPLE logo! Sad

Just now updated from 12.0 to the 08-FEB-2014 nightly. I chose a nightly because of a reference- that essentially the current version was so well-done there would be no monthly.

(Yes, I've went without updating for almost a year- because each time seems to be Russian Roulette with 4 bullets)

This experience didn't do any better than expected.

I was following the nightly instructions to the l-e-t-t-e-r.....

At the last step "rm *xbmc*.deb", I got so far as typing "r" and the ATV2 rebooted....which it has been doing for the past 15 minutes. I've cycled power and removed it's wireless connection.

WHY, GUYS? ? ? ? ? ? ? I'm all but afraid to touch this *&^%$ thing anymore.......Sad And my love for XBMC...........is in pretty short supply.

RE: Nightly build, constant reboot cycle - Ned Scott - 2014-02-09

I just tried a nightly build and didn't have any issue. However, at least five different users have reported this, so something is going on. Maybe some other package is also getting updated at the same time as XBMC? Or some flaw is being exposed, but only in certain setups, maybe with a specific version of the ATV software?

RE: Nightly build, constant reboot cycle - Jens_Ond - 2014-02-09

Hi

Looking at the XBMC Github, it seems like it is being worked on.

Hi,

I'm relieved apple are still signing 5.3.... Trying to re-jb using SP IPSW and shift-restore but I'm getting 1602/1601 errors.... Is this my USB cable?

Thanks
