DTS-HD and TrueHD passthrough works
Oceanic Life skipped 1 frame on the initial bootup and then played through the entire folder without any skipped or dropped frames.

This was on a hastily setup unit running version 0021 of the bios and openelec nightly "OpenELEC-Generic.x86_64-devel-20140204145610-r17626-g97447e4"

I was able to boot off USB 3.0 stick using instructions from this thread. If the unit boots to a blank screen, keep pressing F2 to get into setup. Another snag I ran into was I was unable to flash the bios from within Visual Bios. Instead I had to press F7 repeatedly at startup before the BIOS screen to get into an old school text based BIOS flash utility which allowed me to update via USB. I am using a Crucial 2GB CT25664BF1339 stick with 512MB allocated for Video in the BIOS. I did remove the wi-fi card, as I only use wired ethernet and find the dual NIC's more trouble than it's worth. I didn't mess with the IR receiver, as I use FLIRC and think that is a superior solution.

I hope than clarifies some questions and I plan to play with it some more this weekend as time allows.

Are you able to measure power consumption?

Has anyone tried interlaced video on the new bay trail nuc?

I seem to remember reading something about Intel not supporting interlaced decoding in hardware or something like that but can't seem to find it now.

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Bay Trail/Silvermont 2013Q4 edition) - -DDD- - 2014-02-08

It was only about Interlaced VC1 Material. h264 and mpeg2 interlaced Video works fine.

Has anyone had success with using the internal IR sensor in this NUC? I can't get it to work in OpenELEC..

But I none of the above commands seem to be receiving any IR when I point a IR remote at the sensor on the front of the NUC and hit buttons..

What am I doing wrong or missing?

Thank you in advance!

Sounds like Intel is never going to fix this BIOS bug. Guess I purchased a paperweight if I don't buy a compatible tv.
This is the last intel product I ever purchase.

BIOS problem should not be a showstopper. You dont need to get into BIOS very often.
Someone posted you a link here for BIOS recovery. Did you tried that?

7.5 - 8.0 watts playing various 1080p videos (VC1 progressive & h264)

I got mine to work with a new remote I bought. At first, I tried a compatible Media Center Remote I have (VRC-1100) and it didn't do anything on the DN2820FYKH. I know IR receiver is working because my LG G2 has an IR Blaster and I was able to get some functions to work using the LG app, QuickRemote.

I then ordered a certified MCE remote that works out the box; It says it is RC6. I ordered the Rosewill RHRC-11002. I made custom mappings to get it to work the way I wanted for example hitting the guide button brings the full guide when in fullscreen live tv.

You can tell if your remote would work if you ssh into the box and run the "irw" command then hit any key on the remote. If you get a response in ssh, then that remote is compatible, or at least that key.

I suggest you correspond with the people in the Intel NUC support site rather than here to resolve your issues. MAybe you can help them as well to recreate issues that they could use create a new Bios to solve your problem.

I was running "irw" and getting no response from my Dish network remote that was shooting IR to my receiver for volume, etc.. pretty standard IR frequency, I'm sure.. but the NUC wouldn't output anything.. I'll try other remotes later tonight.. but if anyone has more tips on this, let me know! What defines a "compatible remote" exactly?

Thanks!

So wait.. Am I just missing something crucial here? Does the IR receiver in this DN2820FYKH NUC only support some certified MCE remotes? Whatever MCE stands for.. Wink I was hoping that it would see just about any IR remote created in the last 20 years.. I was hoping to use the DVD mode of my Dish Network remote and program XBMC via OpenELEC to respond to whatever IR commands my DVD player remote was sending to it..

Am I way off base here? I can't get any remote that I have to be recognized by "irw" on my NUC...

You would need an MCE compatible remotes which are Microsoft Media Center remotes. You can find all the information about compatible remotes here: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Remote_Control_Reviews

I believe these MCE remotes use a protocol called RC6 and the IR receiver is works with remotes that support this protocol.

There are 2 sections to this wiki, those that are MCE and those that are non-MCE. I too tried all the remotes in my house. only my cell worked. Good luck

RE: Intel NUC - HTPC (Bay Trail/Silvermont 2013Q4 edition) - joelbaby - 2014-02-09

You can also use some all-in-one remotes eg. Logitech Harmony series.

...or any other universal remote that support RC6 (out of the box or learned)
