Alright, solved my network problem. It's a known issue with the r8169 driver, got realtek sources and compiled it myself.

Now I am facing problems with suspend. Every 3rd or 4th time I am suspending the box from within XBMC the system freezes. Video is blank, network is turned off, but the box stays on but doesn't respond anymore. I went ahead and tried suspending from the XBMCBuntu desktop which works flawlessly. Tried about 20 times, no problems at all. Seems to happen only when I suspend from XBMC.

Here are my specs:

Core i3-3240
8 GB Ram

Here are the log/debug info:

dmesg
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7338413/
xbmc.log
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7338420/
Xorg.log
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7338421/
Mesa:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7338425/
vainfo
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7338430/

EDIT: didn't happen with XBMCBuntu 12 which I ran on the box till this week.

Thanks for any help,

boba

Code:

Cheeky for loop that, didn't know you could do that in xterm.
Here it is: paste.ubuntu.com/7338526/

What was in the temp folder didn't work, as you can see, because it isn't there.

Just a wild guess, try creating the xbmc userdata (wiki) folder with 755 permissions and start xbmc and then check.

RE: [beta] Xbmcbuntu 13 Testing Thread - inuit - 2014-04-26

That didn't seem to do anything I'm afraid.

come on.. login to the desktop, open a terminal, type: xbmc
there must be some output.

After playing a video I completely lose the ability to control xbmc via both the keyboard and flirc. this continues even after the video has ended and I've returned to the library view. My hardware is an i5 Haswell processor using built-in 4600 graphics. Logs captured after this error are below and any insight is greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work!

dmesg | pastebinit
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7325725/
pastebinit ~/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7325726/
pastebinit /var/log/Xorg.0.log
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7325728/
DISPLAY=:0 vdpauinfo | pastebinit
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7325729/
dpkg -l |grep mesa | pastebinit
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7325731/

I am also intermittently losing the ability to use my Flirc and keyboard to control xbmc. I had logging disabled so I don't have an xbmc.log file to post at the moment, but will when/if it occurs again. Two things of note, dmesg doesn't show anything strange (i.e., the USB devices do not disconnect) and I am able to ctrl-alt-F1 to a command prompt and ctr-alt-F7 back to xbmc even after xbmc stops responding.

Edit 1: mine was an upgrade from the previous xbmcbuntu.

"can i upgrade the xbmcbuntu to the Full Lubuntu Desktop via apt-get lubuntu-desktop?"

yes, in theory. Some may break and something else may be missing though

RE: [beta] Xbmcbuntu 13 Testing Thread - -DDD- - 2014-04-27

So the easier way for me would be to take Lubuntu.iso and install XBMC there i think.

RE: [beta] Xbmcbuntu 13 Testing Thread - nickr - 2014-04-27

That is certainly an option - or ubuntu minimal and go from that - there are a couple of howtos on the forums for that path.

But at the same time you can install whatever you like on top of XBMCbuntu.

Apologies, wasn't thinking.
paste.ubuntu.com/7344131/

It also says: "Extension GLX missing on display :0"
And "couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig.

Thanks

The now provide what the first post wants, after you have logged into that desktop session

RE: [beta] Xbmcbuntu 13 Testing Thread - StephanS - 2014-04-27

Hi,

I am currently looking into xbmcbuntu-13~beta4_i386.iso and I experience fundamental trouble:

I am running a Asus S1-AT5NM10E system which is working fine on Eden.

When trying to install I end up with a black screen and an unresponsive system.

When I try to run the live system, I can at least enter a shell (Strg-Alt-F1).

when trying to manually run xbmc i get an error message:

Error: Unable to open Display
XBMC needs hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering
Install appropriate graphics driver driver

I tried to manually install the nvidia drivers, unfortunately without changing the situation.

Any help appreciated.

Best Regards
Stephan

RE: [beta] Xbmcbuntu 13 Testing Thread - inuit - 2014-04-27

So I have that error, but still no temp folder or xbmc.log created.

RE: [beta] Xbmcbuntu 13 Testing Thread - fritsch - 2014-04-27

@inuit: Provide everything the thread wants after you have logged into the desktop session

see what @StephanS did as a good example.

RE: [beta] Xbmcbuntu 13 Testing Thread - fritsch - 2014-04-27

@StephanS: Your nvidia kernel module seems to be not existing. Can you reinstall the nvidia drivers?
