See my link above, we're trying to get it noticed. Seems it should be higher priority than it actually is.

- cybero2912 - 2006-12-07

who is able to raise the priority please

It will probably become a bigger deal as time goes on. Vista isn't even officially released until January, so just have some patience. To my way of thinking, you should at least be dual-booting XP at this stage in the game anyways. Sure the Vista rollout will be smoother than the XP rollout, but you're almost certain to run into a few "showstopping" issues with it over the next few months. I would be dual-booting it already but my video card is made out of terrible, so it'll have to wait... Wink

So, bottom line: XMBC v2.0 and v2.1 have an issue with SMB which is not restricted to VISTA users.

Would love to see this resolved!

thanks for the info thats makes a big difference so i guess the next logical question is has anyone tried to use a pre 2.0-2.1 build of XBMC on vista rtm 6.000(any type) to see if the smb problems exist

- superdj4life - 2006-12-08

ok so nevermind that i had an old build on a AID(v3.0) disk i was able to use and
it works but i had to change the default player in from paplayer to mplayer on some files and dvdplayer on others. ALL of my music is in mp3.

i'm wondering if its XBMC Paplayer or the change in SMB version so if anyone with partial access to there smb shares could try changing the player to anything but Paplayer i think it would be very helpful to the develpers

I can confirm that it is fixed..without changing policies etc.

- elupus - 2006-12-09

as i've said before.. none of the devs ( that has worked on samba ), have a machine to test it against so, this will take some time till it get's fixed.

Is that on RTM Version 6000?

For those of you like me waiting anxiously for a resolution to this matter, I found an interim fix.

Download ccxgui and install it on vista. It runs as a service, and there's a gui to add shares through it. The ccxgui site seems to no longer exist, but you can find it on sourceforge at:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=87054&package_id=97904

Then add a reference in your sources.xml to the server:
<bookmark>
<name>XBMSP Share</name>
<path>xbms://192.168.1.2:1400/</path>
</bookmark>

replace the IP with your Vista machine's IP. port 1400 is the default of the service.

This link will show you all of the shares you added in the ccxgui on vista. So far so good getting it to stream all my stuff. Seems to take an extra second or two to start the stream but at least it works.

I hope SMB is operational again soon.

a tcpdump (etheral capture) would help alot more. the logs don't really tell us enough.

superdj4life Wrote:well i tried the upload page numerous times(in firefox and IE) and it always returned the error seen below, however i found a place to host the file(copy and paste in address bar) enjoy

http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/30032/XBMC-Ethereal-dump.rar.html
4.8 MB

Request object error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005'
Operation not Allowed
/upload/aspupload/class_upload.asp, line 78

Here is one user's ethereal. I'll try to get one up too, and add it to the bug.

Regards

Please supply details. Which version of XBMC are you using? Do you have access to ALL files, or every 2nd. Have you tried playing video?

ccxgui has worked fine for me - but it doesn't seem to allow the playback of DVDR img/iso files
