RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - P3ws - 2014-09-23 Got the Unbundu installation going here. But i can´t get passed locating the installation iso file. Seems installation can not mount the usb stick or cant read it... dunno wich one it is. The USB stick is formated FAT16. Installation automount a long list of devs. But still can´t find the istallation image file. The iso is there on the root of the usb stick. There is a manual option though.. Wonder what to type there to mount the usb stick? How are you trying to run the installer? When I've installed Ubuntu in the past I've booted into the installer from the USB drive, but to do that you can't just copy the Installation ISO to a USB stick and mount it, you need to create a bootable USB stick from the ISO to allow the installer to boot? For Windows : http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows For Mac : http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-mac-osx For Ubuntu : http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - P3ws - 2014-09-23 I been using Linux Live USB Creator and Unetbootin-win-608. Those seemed like the right thing. but apparently they are not. Last time i installed Linux was 1998. :-) Bit rusty eh? RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - P3ws - 2014-09-23 well now i tried that one too now. no luck. Then i tried Yumi and no luck there too. RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - P3ws - 2014-09-23 Think i solved it. Seems the usb can´t copying from local disk. To fast maybe.... SSD Samsung. Got a lot of file errors... Now making a bootable USB from net drive. With the universial USB installer. So now i booted on the USB stick. RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - P3ws - 2014-09-23 And just finished installing Ubuntu. Now for the openelec. :-) RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - buckyo - 2014-09-23 I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for me to try. I have an ASUS Chromebox setup as a standalone openelec box. I used the EZ Script to install. Everything's working except for one thing. I'm wanting to go back to the factory image, but I'm unable to get the seaBIOS to boot to a USB drive. I've tried lots of different ones. It sees the external USB device, but it never lets me select the device. Pressing the escape key has no effect. Thanks for any help. RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - Matt Devo - 2014-09-23 (2014-09-23, 17:22)buckyo Wrote: I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for me to try. If everything is working, why do you want to go back to the factory image? If pressing ESC has no effect, and the SeaBIOS version string ends in my name (which it will if you've installed using my script), then you just need to use a different keyboard, as some require OS init before they will work. Though if you have an OE standalone setup, then you've already had to hit ESC at one point (to install OE). So what changed since then? RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - buckyo - 2014-09-23 I'm wanting to go back to ChromeOS as I'm thinking abaout selling the box. I installed this about a month ago. Nothing really has changed. I've tried 3 different types of keyboards so far including the original one that I used when I set it up. The SesBIOS is (729-Matt Devo). I'll see if I can scrounge up some more keyboards. RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - rodddogg - 2014-09-23 Matt Devo, I have been using one of my CB's with OpenElec and it's amazing. I have a question that I haven't seen asked in this thread.. Do you think there is a possibility your firmware will allow the installation of FreeNAS on the Chromebox? I'd like to buy another one to create a file server; what do you think?? RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - nickr - 2014-09-23 Whats wrong with ubuntu as a file server? RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - rodddogg - 2014-09-23 I'm leaning more towards the web GUI FreeNAS provides. Noob question but can any linux distro be installed on the CB after the firmware flash? If I possibly looked at OpenMediaVault.. TBH I still haven't done enough research on how I want to do this.. any recommendations? RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - Matt Devo - 2014-09-23 I can't imagine why it wouldn't run FreeNAS. A Chromebox will run anything a haswell NUC will, outside of Win7 Re: RE: Asus/HP ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC or Ubuntu+XMBC) [v2.19 - 2014/09/06] - nickr - 2014-09-23 (2014-09-23, 21:59)rodddogg Wrote: I'm leaning more towards the web GUI FreeNAS provides.
