I know this thread is about support for the installation script and not linux support so I don't want to sidetrack the thread but I figured I would post the output in case someone knew a quick fix. If anyone else had this problem with bluetooth on the i3 asus you can pm me as I'm sure Matt doesn't want the thread to get bogged down with endless linux issues.

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+XBMC) [v3.1 - 2014/10/30] - Matt Devo - 2014-11-08

it's the same bluetooth module as on the Celeron 2955u model: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 13d3:3393 IMC Networks

it works fine for me under OpenELEC, and I just loaded up Ubuntu 14.10 (3.16.0-23 kernel) on a live USB and the Bluetooth module loaded without issue, so it's either a kernel or (more likely) a driver issue with whatever version of Ubuntu you are running. I really haven't tested/messed with the dual boot Ubuntu option lately, but the easiest thing is likely to reinstall Ubuntu 14.10 on top of your existing install. Or just boot a live 14.10 USB and see if it works there

I'm using the 14.10 that the script pulled down and installed. Can I just install a fresh ubuntu 14.10 from a usb stick over the ubuntu installed by the script or do I need to wipe everything and do the whole device prep thing again and not run the script a second time?

strange - I wonder if it's because the script was originally set up for 14.04, and some of the tweaks/additions are breaking things.

Either way, you can do a fresh install from the USB stick, just format/install into the partition sda7 only.

Hi, we need all the help we can get.

Everybody please remove the "Use SW Filter" workaround and provide the bzip2 error in combination with dmesg to: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83677#c90

It seems intel refuses to help us at all.

Ideas from here?

Well I know what's going on but unfortunately I don't have a solution for you... The flicker and static that you saw in your previous video are both results of a HDMI handshake problem, I just ran into this on a DVDO matrix switch having problems with an older HDMI balun and TV. The only thing I can think of is that somehow your display driver isn't reporting correctly, so you may need to reformat the box. I wouldn't think that it's a hardware incompatibility since I've done three of these boxes with Matt's script so far and hooked them up to a variety of displays without any issues.

Hope you get it figured out!

Hi
I have the same issue as JonniMR, but I have a different point of view: I had this problem since the beginning with my Asus ChromeBox, with plain Vanila Software and Hardware, and the problem still persists with the dual boot setup.

On the other hand, I've tested my Chromebox with a newer LED TV I have in my room, and the problem didn't happen on that TV. The 'official' TV I'm using for Chromebox is an 2008 LCD TV from Samsung, so in my opinion it may be presenting the issues due to old HDMI handshake incompatibility...

Cheers
Murilo

I don't know if it's related but since I've updated the firmware when I resume from suspend the Chromebox it stays frozen and I have to perform a hard reboot.. Any idea?

I have the workaround script going that force the chromebox to reset the audio/video but after that it just froze.

standalone? latest firmware? OS / version? resuming via remote? I'm going to assume yes/yes/OE 4.2.1/yes, in which case I'm unable to replicate the issue here...

his issue ended up being bad ChromeBox hardware - he got a new ChromeBox and everything works fine now

Hi
I am an unfortunate K400 keyboard owner, and couldn't use the Openelec + ChromeOS dual boot, as I can't press CTRL+D on the developer screen. I have also tried FLIRC to do that, without success.

So now I have a standalone setup with Openelec, and I'm trying to install Chromium OS to a dual setup using GRUB, or something like that.

The problem is that building ChromiumOS seems to be a real pain, and I couldn't go much further.

I also tried the "Cx86OS-20141102010101" version from this site http://chromium.arnoldthebat.co.uk/ but all I get is a blank screen when booting from USB.

So, does anyone have a working build for Chromium to be used with the asus Chromebox? Any tutorial on how to dual boot Chromium + Openelec on the standalone coreboot firmware setup?

Thanks
Murilo

Camd64OS-20141030010101 works fine for me, booting from USB.

Installing ChromiumOS and OpenELEC in a dual-boot setup isn't going to be straightforward. You'll need to install ChromiumOS to the internal HDD first, then use a modified version of my script to partition/install OpenELEC, then modify the syslinux bootloader to allow for a boot menu to select between the two OSes. I don't think anyone has done it yet, as It's something that requires a pretty good understanding of the two OSes, Linux, and bootloaders. Plus, I'm not sure how ready ChromiumOS is to use on a regular basis, from a user (vs developer) standpoint.

Thanks Matt for your help

In this case, I'll give up of this crap Chrome/Chromium OS, and I'll use Mint + Openelec...

Thanks again
Murilo

in that case, I'd just run XBMC in Mint, no real reason to dual boot two different Linux distros.

strange - I wonder if it's because the script was originally set up for 14.04, and some of the tweaks/additions are breaking things.

Either way, you can do a fresh install from the USB stick, just format/install into the partition sda7 only.

I gave up on the dual boot since I'm giving up on chrome os for now (I've tried to like it but it's too limited right now) and did the coreboot firmware standalone ubuntu with a fresh copy of 14.10 from the ubuntu website. The bluetooth works fine now so it must have been something with the chrubuntu ubuntu version that the script pulled down. I'm not sure what the tweaks/additions were for 14.04 that you mentioned but I guess that may have had something to do with it like you said since it pulled down 14.10.

Thanks again for your work on this script and your time answering everybody's questions.

Have one simple question tho:
Will this remote work on the Asus chromebox w/OE
or would it be better to get a flirc and pair it with an ir remote?

Looks like that comes with the same receiver as the Rosewill that I tested (should be listed in the Wiki). My experiences are in this thread.

Hello,
I believe I have the same problem as murilofla and JonniMR. My HDMI will drop out occasionally. Changing out HDMI Cables, and adjusting frame rates etc dont help. It seems like people have determined that its an HP Chromebox Hardware problem. Is that true? Is it verified that replacing the device fixes the problem? Mine is bad enough that it is basically unwatchable.
Thanks,
David
