as per the output of lsusb, your IR receiver is manufactured by Topseed, and their buggy firmware (or Linux's buggy USB3 implementation) is to blame for it not working. Grab one of the known working IR receivers (listed on the wiki) and you'll be all set.

Also, using the XBOX ONE media remote on OE, the xbox button does nothing. Can it be mapped to be the power button? I'm new to OE, so with it being very much 'done for you' its great out of the box experience but if you want/need to tinker you have to learn a bit more than regular XBMC/Kodi.

you won't be able to boot the USB stick, since the stock legacy BIOS isn't functional. Removing the screw doesn't do anything except allow you to modify/replace the firmware, which you have expressed reluctance towards

if you mean via the remote key, the functionality is determined by XBMC's settings - either power off or S3 suspend.

then I'm not sure what to say, other than there are lots of other hardware options available. It's not like I'm flipping random bits, everything is compiled from source, and is available for anyone to examine/build themselves. I'm just using updated branches of the same open source projects Google uses for the stock firmware, with a few tweaks.

download the v4.2.1 Generic x86_64 disk image, write it to SD/UDB using the Win32DiskImager tool, then boot from it.

I'll take a look at the script and see why it's going to sleep, it shouldn't be doing that.
