My library content is not being updated upon startup.. I have "Update library on startup" enabled. The manual update is working fine. Anyone else having the same problem? I also noticed that there is an XBMC Library Updater Addon as well. Need help..

I am trying to use a DisplayPort to HDMI cable for audio only, but I'm getting nowhere. I've hooked it up to both my TV and computer monitor and I can't get video or audio when it's connected. Does anyone have any possible fixes?

As I was just messing around with it some more, I realized that it does briefly give me a picture while it is booting up, but it goes off before I ever see the Openelec boot image. Any ideas?

DisplayPort works fine by itself, it's what I use here. DisplayPort as audio only? Not sure that's a supported configuration, or why you're trying to do that.

While trying to install standalone Ubuntu I reached a point where the system ask me to choose one of the following options:
The computer currently has multiple OS on it. what would you like to do?
1) Erase disk and install Ubuntu
2) Encrypt the new Ubuntu ....
3) Use LVM with the new Ubuntu .....

something else
you can create or resize partitions ....

so, which one should I use assuming I would like to be able to recover chromeOS?

Thanks
SF

#1. Returning to stock just requires re-flashing the stock firmware, then using Google's recovery tool to create the recovery media (which reloads ChromeOS), as per the wiki.

I was all set for a stand alone openelec install but am now considering a stand alone Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with a 'boot straight into xbmc' setup so that i can when the need arises have a desktop which i seem to understand supports nexflix hd through chrome browser and Skype. I use Skype a lot, I'm also totally new to ubuntu is there downfalls to this approach

this is basically what XBMCbuntu (now KodiBuntu) does. You can DIY or wait for the Kodibuntu release once it hits stable.

Kodi can be installed inside of Ubuntu as well ( http://kodi.wiki/view/Installing_XBMC_for_Linux ), but the overhead of Ubuntu in the background maybe too much....but you will not know until you see it stutter or not as you watch media.

there's very little to no performance overhead running a full linux distro vs OpenELEC.

Starting with OE 5.0 RC1, SSH is defaulted to disabled on the first run wizard; you have to select it to be enabled. If you didn't enable it at that time, then you can either do a soft reset (to force the wizard to run again) or boot a live Linux USB stick and then manually edit the extlinux.conf file in the root of sda1 to add 'ssh' to the kernel command line parameter list.

Yes, but the write-protect screw for the Acer is in a different place than the others, due to it's different physical configuration. I'll be adding a pic to the wiki soon (and updating the script to check for WP disable before flashing)

this isn't a ChromeBox/setup/hardware question

yes, and the ARM-based Android boxes mostly do as well (it's just not as mature/stable). Please read the wiki.

My device will freeze and the only to get it back working is to unplug it.
Is there any fix for that?

The differences between the processors mentioned are extremely small. I don't know if the Acer would work, but you wouldn't see any real benefit from it over the Asus.

Matt, have you noticed that the newer Asus boxes have two screws (both resembling the write protect screw) inside? I'm almost positive my original unit did not.

The Acer works fine (provided the WP screw is correctly removed), I just flashed one a few days ago.

I have two more Asus units coming it tomorrow, I'll compare to my original unit (purchased at release back in March). My original unit has a screw directly opposite the WP screw, but it doesn't have the ground contacts underneath - it's just a mounting screw.

I just got my Asus last week and the WP screw was in the same location as pictured in the wiki.

Weird, I checked and my early unit did not have the screw opposite of the WP screw, while my new unit did. It also came with an "Intel inside" sticker which wasn't on the old unit. Subtle differences, I wonder if they just forgot the screw on my original.

Does the Acer have two ram slots? The processor isn't really a selling point IMO, although it does support slightly faster ram.

Can you do me a favor a take a pic of yours? I'm curious if there was a board revision at some point.

The Acer, while it does have two ram slots, is a bit more of a pain to open up, and def more of a pain to access the ssd/wifi/ram as they're all on the underside, and require complete disassembly/removal of the board. The fan is also slightly louder than the Asus - I'd say it's on par with the Dell, but quieter than the HP by far.
