Has anyone tried HugeGreenBug's Kodibuntu distro with the Acer CXI models? He doesn't list them as compatible, but the hardware is very nearly the same. Just thought I'd ask before I try and get myself into trouble. I am primarily a Windows 7 person, but I thought I'd experiment with the OpenElec or Kodibuntu and see if I can get it to do everything I want.
I have been running XBMC/Kodi on three separate Windows 7 HTPCs along with WMC for over a year, but I'm trying to downsize from full PCs to something quieter/more power efficient and more reliable. The Win 7 machines are always causing some type of headache. I'm thinking of cutting cable altogether so that would eliminate the need for WMC and lower the hardware needs.
So, I just picked up one of the Newegg $119 Acer CXI to try out. I know that most recommend the Asus, but I am very comfortable taking the Acer apart, heatsink and all. I popped in another 2GB of memory last night and removed the write protect screw. I chose to reapply new thermal paste. What was there was very sloppy.

I'm also more windows inclined, not by choice but because i am used to even if my first PC came apart witn msdos 5.5 on floppy disk.
But runing openelec on the chromebox while being able to deal with it using WinSCP makes me perfectly at ease :-D

All 4 Haswell Chromeboxes are identical in compatibility, they use the same custom firmware, and hugegreenbug's Kodibuntu distro is what the script uses as well.

This might be a silly question. I setup a Chromebox a while back for my daughter with dual Chrome/OpenELEC and everything was fine. Now it's booting straight into Chrome without giving choice. Am I to assume that someone accidentally hit the space bar to turn OS verification back on? If that's the case is there a way to fix it without having to redo everything? Thanks.

Ken, you should be able to go back to developer mode without losing any of the dual boot stuff, you'll just lose ChromeOS user data

Ok I put it back in developer mode and I get the white OS screen but Crtl-L just beeps while Crtl-D takes me to Chrome desktop.

I installed Kodibuntu on the Acer CXI last night with no problems whatsoever. Very easy to do with the script. Thanks for all your work Matt (and HugeGreenBug). I have some learning though. Kodibuntu is not as easy to configure with my NAS as Windows based Kodi was. I need to learn NFS and/or Samba because the UPnP method doesn't give me the file scrapers.

edit: just update the legacy BIOS, it also sets an OS-level flag to allow legacy boot (or you can set it via the command line: sudo crosssystem dev_boot_legacy=1).

are you talking about at the OS level or in Kodi itself? it shouldn't be any different for the latter

Matt I'm a little confused. Doesn't the set boot options just set which OS boots by default and how long the delay is? Regardless of how it's set shouldn't the ctrl-L bring up OpenElec ?

bah, sorry, brain fart. I meant to say you should update the legacy BIOS. it also sets an OS-level flag which is necessary to enable legacy booting. edited my post above

are you talking about at the OS level or in Kodi itself? it shouldn't be any different for the latter
OS level and within Kodi. I'm not all that good with Linux.
With Windows, I had my NAS folders mapped to a Windows drive letter. In Windows-Kodi, you just add the drive folder in Files and it automatically scrapes them and adds to Movies/TV Shows/etc. I couldn't get it to do that with Kodibuntu because my NAS only shows up as a UPnP device which apparently doesn't work with scrapers/library features. I just get a list of files, but no metadata, etc. I'm sure its just a matter of configuring my NAS slightly differently and figuring out Samba/NFS. It was getting late. Otherwise, the Kodibuntu install was perfect.

Hello,
First post. I tried searching but can't seem to find any topics on my issue. Installed openelec and kodi on a Asus Chromebox in a dual boot configuration. Love the setup but out of nowhere I booted the Chromebox up and get this message. "Error in check_disks: could not repair filesystem, dropping to debugging shell, try to run fsck manually Starting debugging shell... type exit to quit ### can't access tty: job control turned off." Can someone please help me repair my openelec install? I do not know linux hence the username I chose. Weird thing is i can boot to Chrome OS with no problems so somethings has to be wrong with the Openelec partition. Also not sure if this is related or not but we did have a power surge a few nights ago I don't know if that is coincidence or what. I don't know how to run that fsck command either.
