It seems to be receiving a signal. I have a Samsung and indicates a "no signal" when box is off. As soon as I turn the box on it goes away which indicates it's receiving a signal but just getting the black screen. I'll try the recovery button. Thanks again.

I looked in wiki trying to check for any troubleshooting options for my problem but not sure if I see one . I have a dual boot OE/ chrome OS w/ 30sec delay. I turned it on today and I'm just getting a black screen. I've switched hdmi cables and also tried different hdmi ports to no avail. Do you think a factory restore is necessary? Thanks in advance.
Does the TV/display indicate it's receiving a signal? A factory reset won't work if the box isn't booting at all. You can try booting with the recovery button pressed and see if you get video that way

Matt,

Before trying the recovery button I decided to connect the box to a different TV and totally different result. I had to run the "fsck" commands for dual boot and all is good now. Connected to the TV where I originally had issues and working well too. Thanks.

Well after the initial hic-hup of two keyboards not working when attempting to install the standalone OpenElec version, my 3rd keyboard worked perfectly so have updated the keyboard thread with details of keyboards used

good deal. One of the compromises with an ultra-fast booting system is that it doesn't wait around for hardware that doesn't initialize/respond within the time spec'd. Most of the time it isn't an issue, but when trying to boot from an external source it can be.

Trying to update coreboot firmware from my linux distro i get:

Quote:Firmware update available (20150610)

Install "headless" firmware? This is only needed for servers
running without a connected display. [y/N] y

Default to booting from any connected USB device? If N, always boot from the internal SSD unless selected from boot menu. [y/N] n

Downloading flashrom utility

Downloading cbfstool utility

Reading current firmware

Downloading coreboot firmware
curl: Remote file name has no length!
curl: try 'curl --help' or 'curl --manual' for more information

coreboot firmware download checksum fail; download corrupted, cannot flash.

then you're not in developer mode

You were right, I was not in developer mode. I got back into developer mode via the recovery button. Once there, I was finally able to enter the EZ Setup and change the boot options to a 30s delay. I was then able to enter OpenELEC by the keystroke [Ctrl]+[L]. I'm puzzled on how it got out of developer mode but I'm all good now. Thanks for the help Matt Devo.

The boot options now prevent you from leaving developer mode without explicitly setting it back to the factory default

I tried to upgrade the firmware on my Asus Chromebox, OE is already installed in single boot mode. I got the following:

Chromebox:~ # curl -L -O https://goo.gl/SoCQtG
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 0curl: (77) error setting certificate verify locations:
CAfile: /etc/ssl/cacert.pem
CApath: none

Something missing here? There's only /etc/ssl/cert.pem on my system.

EDIT: OK, I got it: I have to use: curl -L -O --cacert /etc/ssl/cert.pem https://goo.gl/SoCQtG

EDIT 2: Now I get this:

Checking if update available...

Error downloading firmware version information; cannot proceed.

I tried rebooting and do it again (bash SoCQtG), but it's the same.

Any idea?

EDIT 3: Solved. I had to add '--cacert /etc/ssl/cert.pem' to all curl statements in the script...
