EDIT: so I checked it OpenELEC worked, and it did, but do I leave it in DEV mode? or do I take it out of DEV mode? Once you've verified that's working, reboot and go back to ChromeOS (use [CTRL-D] to skip the timeout), re-run the script, and set your preferred default OS and boot timeout. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/15] - karasardelis - 2015-06-17 Hi everyone... i really need your help here and i just hope someone with more experience will guide me to solve my problem. I just got an HP chromebox (celeron model) off eBay, hoping that i will turn it into a KODI box, but i'm unable to disable the hardware write protection... i removed the screw, cleaned the contacts and everything looks great and contacts are clean and far apart, but the script still says that can't run because the hardware write protection is still enabled. What am i doing wrong here? Please people, help!!!! Verify lack of continuity with a DMM if you have one. 2) from the command line, run 'sudo crossystem | grep wpsw' and post the output 3) from the command line, run 'sudo flashrom --wp-status' and post the output RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/15] - dublbagn - 2015-06-17 ^^ thanks for all your help yesterday, but I need to know... Am i supposed to take my chromebox out of developer mode after I verify that the dual boot works correctly? if so how do I do this? because I am using Kodi, and it does not give me the same file options as I am seeing in some tutorial videos. I feel like I am missing options "enable add on" or "update" RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/15] - Matt Devo - 2015-06-17 (2015-06-17, 18:57)dublbagn Wrote: ^^ thanks for all your help yesterday, but I need to know... Quote:because I am using Kodi, and it does not give me the same file options as I am seeing in some tutorial videos. I feel like I am missing options "enable add on" or "update" Kinda hard to evaluate that since we have no idea what videos you are referring to, but anything post-install that isn't hardware related is best addressed in the proper forum RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/15] - jrochet - 2015-06-18 The OP is amazing! Quick question - for somebody with no NAS or other PC, would it be unwise to waste money on a big SSD (250/500GB) for one of these (standalone)? Or possibly a 128GB SD card (boot from SD option)? I'm pretty sure I could survive on that little of space since I don't keep stuff for long. Just would be nice to have a fully self-sufficient setup, but would also suck to spend the extra money and have it not work. I tried searching this but wasn't getting any luck. I'd think an external USB-powered HDD would be the most cost effective option, but there's no reason you can't use a large internal M.2 SSD. I'd avoid an SD card for the OS for speed reasons (the SD card reader is USB2.0), but for media storage it's fine as well. Thanks for the advice. I also found by Googling "2242 SSD Chromebox" this other post where you had provided a link and it's still valid. Very tempting, though I think I'll sleep on it and check out all of my options. I will cut the SD card / USB plan out from my options now - thanks for the warning. Which makes the most sense depends on your desired capacity and portability RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/15] - jrochet - 2015-06-18 (2015-06-18, 04:02)Matt Devo Wrote:(2015-06-18, 03:58)jrochet Wrote: Thanks for the advice. Portability / self-sufficient'ness seem to be my main concern but money-wise'ness is always there as a concern too. Such tough choices for the indecisive type. RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/15] - hetz - 2015-06-18 Hi, Just tried the latest (0615) version of Matt's ROM. I can boot external USB (I'm using Fedora 22, which works), but the big problem is that I cannot boot the internal SSD, it shows me a line (which I can't read - too quick), and then the keyboards being reset and the screen turns off. Also, no more Chrome boot screen (the one graphics with the exclamation mark). I tried to create the recovery image using Google's tool on an SD card, powered off the ChromeBox (it's ASUS ChromeBox with the Celeron U2955), pushed the reset button with power on, again - got the ROM message about the latest but no graphics at all, and after pressing ESC and selecting the SD I get the exact behavior as selecting the internal SSD. Suggestions? (I already tried to update the firmware using Matt's script, and it tells me I got the latest), RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/15] - Matt Devo - 2015-06-18 (2015-06-18, 17:13)hetz Wrote: Hi, you can't boot the internal SSD because you haven't installed a bootable OS; ChromeOS is no longer bootable since my custom firmware isn't signed with Google's crypto keys (among other reasons). Same with the ChromeOS recovery media - it boots only when running the stock firmware in recovery mode. Just install OpenELEC, Kodibuntu, or whatever you want to run to the internal SSD and you'll be good to go RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/06/15] - rodalpho - 2015-06-18 Deal today for the Dell chromebox, $129.00 with free shipping. Use $20 off code "05BBRZ5PFNTR9J". It is essentially identical to the Asus chromebox, except it comes with AC wireless.
