The clock at the top right sticks and the remote becomes non responsive. When it is working all is good.

I am only running mediaportal over and Titan skin with emby plugin nothing else is running - can provide logs but thought I would check if there was a known issue or not.

Thanks

no, my system uptime is however long it's been since the 5.0.8 release, so it's likely due to the emby plugin if I had to guess. But guessing is all we can do without proper debug logs

So based on a video I saw on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2lTUUTAwbst Okay, so I first take off the rubber feet of the chromebox exposing the four screws (as shown in other guides) I then remove the four screws afterwards I open the chromebox separating the two halves then reassemble in reverse order. Okay understood all that but why must I separate the two halves then reassemble the thing in reverse order ? What happens when you do that ? Why can't I just remove the screw without separating the two halves ?

Pardon for what may seem as dumb questions but I though your explanation of this will help me and all the other newbies out there better understand the process of removing the write protection screw. Just want some feedback on this guys I don't want to feel like I'm delving into this all on my own. By the way, I liked how the guy in the video removed the bottom half of the chromebox lid by sticking two of the screws in the vesa mount holes then gently lifted the bottom cover off the chromebox with the two screws in place. I thought [from a non-technician point of view] that it was very astute of him to have done that don't you think ?

ignoring the random youtube video, all of this is stated clearly in the wiki instructions (including the tip to use screws in the vesa mounting holes to remove the back cover)

News Flash: Man reads wiki, then films himself following instructions and posts it on YouTube.

Smart Alec ! Don't you think I would have known that had I read the wiki instructions carefully. Of course I didn't know since I did not know that was there in the first place. Anyway, Nick at least he did everyone a favor by showing folks how it's done. One dude in another guide shows folks how he did it by, squeezing [a] small flat head screw driver under the bottom of the power button [of the chromebox] and levering the bottom of the case up.
Check it out:http://www.cuttingcords.com/home/2015/1/2/turning-a-chromebox-into-a-full-fledged-plex-home-theater-client

Now that I wouldn't do since there's a possibility of damaging that part of the case. Anyway, try not to tick people off because you never know how other folks might interpret your comments in this forum, okay bye.

Sorry if I seemed smart alec, and I do confess to consulting a video as well as the wiki and first post when I modded my first chromebox.

My comment was directed at people making video after video of quite simple stuff and posting on youtube, and wasn't a reflection on your abilities or your question.

In answer to "but why must I separate the two halves then reassemble the thing in reverse order ? What happens when you do that ? Why can't I just remove the screw without separating the two halves ?" - I think this is simply referring to taking the back off, removing the screw and then reassembling. Simply you have to separate the two halves of the case to get at the write-protect screw.

Anyway, enjoy your chromebox, I have picked up four of them at quite good prices, great little machines.

since the "two halves" seems to have caused confusion, I've reworded the wiki instructions to be more clear

Apology accepted Nick, anyway I made progress and removed the write protect screw that's inside the chromebox. I didn't know that beforehand since in all of the pictures that are in the internet it shows the board with the screw off. When I first opened up my chromebox and looked at the location where the screw is supposed to be, I was like "there's the screw" in my mind. No wonder I was confused, anyway I downloaded Matt's script ran the thing the first time installed ubuntu then set boot options. However, when I rebooted and pressed ctrl L I can't boot into Ubuntu I think that's because I did not restore the stock firmware followed by a factory reset. If that's the case, [which it probably is] then that should be stated in troubleshooting section of the wiki specifically under the "Help! I'm stuck on the black SeaBIOS boot screen" sentence. Oh well I guess I'll ask Matt for help. : )

Hey Matt, I removed the write protect screw ran the script, chose to dual boot chromeos and ubuntu however when ubuntu installed specifically version 15.04 and then rebooted using option # 9 of the Ez setup menu I couldn't boot into ubuntu install. I think this happened to me because I did not restore the stock chromeos firmware followed by a factory reset. In which case I'll have to right ? Will I have to run the script all over again or can I continue from there ? I mean when I rebooted chromeos did not "repair the newly created partitions and reboot itself" as stated in the wiki. I will gladly gratify you if you help me with this. - Regards Netuzist

this is what happens when you either follow some other instructions other than mine, or don't follow them exactly. It sounds to be like you set the boot options to boot Ubuntu before the dual boot setup was completed. So here's what you need to do: Boot ChromeOS. Run the script, set the boot options back to the factory default (you shouldn't have changed them until you had a tested working Ubuntu setup, as per the instructions). Do a factory reset. Then, follow the instructions in the OP from that point.

Essentially, the audio plays fine but the video intermittently drops out for 5-10 seconds, at a random rate (could be seconds between drops, could be minutes) on any movie I watch.

<snip>

Any ideas on how to address? I can install the stable build but since the issue was fixed in 5.0 and I'm running a 5.0+ client in 5.92.2 right now, I'm not holding out much hope that the stable build fixes it. Thank you for time!

no, you're experiencing something else with similar symptoms. And as fritsch said, exactly what can't be determined without the relevant log files, at detailed in the first post of this thread.

stab in the dark, since it's affecting every movie you have tried, I'm guessing you're seeing network dropouts. Feel free to try with content from local or USB-attached media before posting logs.

I appreciate the follow up. I ended up installing the stable build before I pulled the logs from the beta, and haven't experienced the issue since. I understand that without logs it will be chalked up to network issues, however I was able to watch the same movie on the old popcorn hour off the same network tap at essentially the same time and not experience the issue that the chromebox + 5.92.2 had. I'm posting this in case another Dell Chromebox user comes across a similar issue, and now that I'm knowledgeable I'll be sure to capture the appropriate logs if I see the issue with the stable build in the future. Thanks Matt.

Some startup questions. I have just recieved my 2 new Acer CXI chromebox and remove WP screw and installed OE beta on 1 of them.

If I want to revert to OE stable version, how do I do that?
Can I somehow access the Chromebox E-Z menu with create installation media somehow?
And if not is Generic x86_64 OE builds precisely the same as the ones in the Chromebox E-Z menu or can I somehow create the same installation media from another machine with SSH perhaps with Putty?

RE: Asus/HP/Acer/Dell ChromeBox EZ Setup (OpenELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2015/07/02] - nickr - 2015-07-15

Download the tar file for 5.0.8.

Transfer the tar file to the /storage/.update/ folder on your openelec machine using scp or windows networking.

Reboot.

See nickr's reply. Do a hard reset afterwards via the OpenELEC/General page.

Not under OpenELEC.

Yes, just follow the instructions on OpenELEC's site if you need to create fresh install media.

All of the above is contained in the wiki and OP Smile

Thanks for your answers Matt. Have read the wiki just wanted to make sure it's completely the same version as the one in E-Z menu.
And the WP screw removal was doable as you said earlier, just many screw to remove on the Acer model and heatpipeSmile

I just bought a 55inch samsung UHD 4k smart tv

It refused to recognise my chromebox

When I connect chromebox to my old tv (32 in non smart), then connect the HDMI to the new TV, it works.

But if I turn off the chromebox, it doesn't recognise it again.

How can I fix this, please help me before I go apeshit on my new tv
