Your last comment - you can add any package you like to server, so not sure why you didn't persevere with it and add the packages you want?

I think by that time I wanted to try the EGL fixes to give Kodi a try again so I had to install a 15.10 version of xbuntu which is a requisite so I installed Ubuntu server 15.10 and setup as per fritsch instructions but at the time of playing videos again experienced system hangs and I did a full report in that thread, I posted logs and everything fritsch asked but he couldn't find anything and he said he would be back at it in January 2016 in the end.
I didn't want to wait 1+ month with an unusable OS so I decided to just install Windows (that's another story).

Problem is I guess when X/GUI is installed because plain Ubuntu server never froze and so is related to GPU & Kernel.
Reminds me of when we had that nasty GPU hang issue few after this thread started.

So basically it was never solved in my case. Hangs kept happening one way or another.

How frequent are these freezes? I'll try to reproduce with GalliumOS later today, using various video sources / players

Its random but often, happens in less than 30 minutes mostly.
Please use Chromium browser or Chrome and play YouTube videos or Netflix/Amazon Prime if you have.

I never could even finish a Movie in Netflix, froze in less than half movie. With YouTube the first time froze when watched a 3rd Movie Trailer.

Thanks Matt

Hey Matt,

Can you point me in the right direction to configure my Logitech Harmony Remote with the Chromebox? I also have the HP IR Infrared Media Center as well.

Thanks

program the Harmony as a Microsoft Media Center Extender (not MCE keyboard). Customize buttons as desired.

Perfect! Thank you!

This is also very handy when tweaking remote: http://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Keymap_Editor

It's also possible to edit manually configuration file that keymap editor creates if something is impossible to do via gui.

yep, I use that to override some unused keys, so I can have a button for update library (eg)

I've tested all of the above services on a fresh install of GalliumOS using Chrome, and had no issues at all. I think it's on episode #5 of House of Cards Season 4, hasn't skipped a beat (though I did have to disable the monitor blanking and screensaver to prevent them from interfering).

Can you boot up a USB with memtest86 or similar just to rule out a RAM issue? I'm leaning towards something hardware related at this point.

OK going to do that, is it OK to use the memtest option from current Gallium OS grub at boot ?

Also did you test GalliumOS installed in internal SSD? Celeron box?

Yes, that should be fine, forgot it was an option. GalliumOS is installed on the internal ssd of my Celeron dev box, running the latest public firmware (2016-03-07)

Matt,

Having a problem I believe to be HDMI related. I cannot get a connection via HDMI. I don't believe its cable related because I have two older media players that work in two separate rooms and when I plug in the ChromeBox I get nothing each time. I can ping the box and see it connected via my router.
