Ok, So as easy and it maybe, I'm absolutely lost. With the file copied onto the usb (not extracted) and Kodi loaded and running, what/where do I go to perform this update?

I am so sorry for my ignorance.

the easier/easiest way is just to copy the file from the PC on which you downloaded to the Chromebox over the network using the instructions here: http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Updating_OpenELEC

You can get the IP address of the Chromebox by going to the 'System Info' target under the 'System' heading on the main menu

Got it!!! THANK YOU!!!

One last question. Upon release of a new version of Kodi, will It automatically update or is that a whole different animal?

RE: ChromeBox Kodi E-Z Setup Script (LibreELEC/Linux+Kodi) [2016/07/19] - nickr - 2016-07-23

Frankly I ssh into the oe/le box and use wget to download the update file directly to /storage/. The url to download can be found by right clicking on the download link on the le forum and choose to copy the link location. Then go to your ssh and type wget, and paste the url in.

I then copy it to .update and reboot.

By downloading it to /storage/ it stays there after the reboot and I can scp it to the other machines on the lan.

Smile Generally speaking, if you have updates set to Automatic under System/LibreELEC/General, then it will update automatically when there is a new stable release in the same series (eg, 7.0.1 to 7.0.2).

If you want to run a beta version, you will have to do a manual install (like you just did), after which it will automatically update to any newer beta versions, and eventually to a stable release.

updates are not automatic across major releases (different major versions of Kodi, eg 16.1 to 17.0); here again a manual update is required

Matt, I seem to have a problem. My latest chromebox conversion seems to have gone awry.

ASUS CN60

When I boot the chromebox it starts with the screen "OS Verification off, Press Space to Re-enable"

If I press ctrl-d, it flashes black, then flashes a white screen with the word chrome and the logo in the middle, then black again, then a screen with the "chrome" and logo at top left and one line of asian script across the middle of the screen.

If I boot with the recovery button pressed, I get a screen that says Chromeos is missing and insert recovery media. If I put in a libreelec USB it complains that it doesn't contain a valid ChromeOS media (fair enough).

In neither case can I ctrl-alt-f2.

I have completed this successfully on at least 4 prior machines, but never had this before. I don't want to stuff it up any more so seek help.

I am thinking I may need to reinstall Chromeos and start afresh, but my internet is all over the place like a mad woman tonight, and I am having trouble downloading a recovery image.

*Sigh* a quick 20 minute job I told the wife...

Anyway, help appreciated.

PS I have tried to find the answer here and on the wiki!

not sure what's happening exactly when you're attempting to boot into Developer Mode, but I think that resetting via a recovery image is a good starting point.

I'd be curious about the screen you're seeing with the Chrome logo and Asian script - can you take/post a pic before resetting via Recovery Mode?

I have taken a pic and will post the imgur link soon (when it uploads through the treacle)

Once i have the recovery bin file do I simply dd it to a usb stick?

Well bugger me, I left it at the "Asian language" screen and when I came back to the room it it was at the default 1st screen, (ie language/keyboard/network) but with the language selected as something asian. Chose US english and I was able to get my way into chromeos again. Alt-F2 and ran your script.

Now running LE alpha. Didn't have to restore anything.

sounds like you hit one of the arrow keys accidentally at some point, which is how you change languages on the Recovery Mode screen

I know your of the "If it aint broke..." camp but I do like to be up to date as do others I am sure!

With that in mind, once booted from Ubuntu USB do I run the Firmware Utility Script and choose option 3 to update my standalone install running the Millhouse LibreELEC builds?

Code:
cd; curl -L -O http://mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh && sudo bash firmware-util.sh

you can update using either the Kodi E-Z Setup Script or the ChromeOS Firmware Utility Script; the latter is a bit fancier (gives system info/firmware info) and has more options but either will work for simply updating the standalone firmware

All went well using Ubuntu Live on USB and running the above command from it's terminal window (I couldn't figure out the password to connect via SSH!) for future reference is that only thing (Other than LibreELEC of course) on a standalone system that might need updating?

How would I do a fresh install of libreElec on the chromebox that I am currently running Kodibuntu on?

Write a libreelec install usb, boot from it, install
