After some advise please, I purchased a second hand asus chromebox with Kodi pre-installed but I have noticed that the boot time reduction to 2s must not have been set when it was originally configured as my other chromebox boots really quick (they are both the same spec and model)

My question is how can I reduce the boot time on an already configured system please as chromeOs no longer exists?

Thanks

Mark
PS BTW I'm using Openelec

just boot a Linux USB (eg, GalliumOS, Ubuntu), then run the Kodi E-Z Setup Script from a shell terminal. For a standalone Kodi setup, choose the option to Install/Update the custom coreboot firmware

Hi Matt

Followed your instructions as above but did not get an option to reduce the boot time?
Selected 6 Install/Update: Custom coreboot firmware
Selected N for install headless firmware
Selected S for SSD
Selected N for PXE Booting
Said Installing seabios-panther
Installed Successully

I also created the libreelec media but it still didn't ask me regarding boot time

Any ideas? I just would like to reduce the boot time?

Thanks

Mark

what "boot time" are you trying to reduce? The box will now boot directly into LibreELEC with no delay, unless you have a USB/SD inserted, where you will have a 3s timeout for the boot menu. There is no delay in booting SeaBIOS as there is with the stock firmware.

Hi Matt

Thanks for the response, on my old chromebox when I power the box on I don't see an Openelec flash screen it just goes into the Kodi screen then loads

On the other box (the one you have been helping me with) I see the Openelec screen first then the kodi screen then loads

Now I don't know why this is? Whic is why I thought it was the boot reduction change??

Again any advise/help appreciated

Thanks again

Mark

those have nothing to do with the firmware -- once boot starts, everything from that point on is based on the OS / settings. Are you running the exact same version on both boxes? Does one box have the 'wait for network before starting Kodi' option selected and the other not?

Hi,

I have a standalone setup of Libreelec on my Asus Chromebox currently on v7.90.008 ALPHA
Now I wanted to update to v7.90.009 ALPHA but it tells my that the system partition is too small and I either should change the partition size or make a new install.
The problem I have is, that I am not able to boot from USB. I do not see a bootmenue and hitting ESC during boot does not help.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Frotza

As described in the troubleshooting section of the wiki page, if you're not getting the 'Press ESC for boot menu' prompt, it's because your USB device isn't being recognized, so try another one. In rare cases, the keyboard being used can screw up USB device detection, but easier to try another USB device first

How can I disable Power Saving on a standalone LibreELEC install on an Asus Chromebox? I did a fresh install with the newest E-Z Script using the latest stable release of Kodi and all I have is Shutdown and Suspend. I want to leave the Chromebox on at all times.

it's off by default, unless enabled under system / power

Hi all,

First I'd like to say thanks to Mr. ChromeBox (Matt) for this! I've been getting a LOT of happiness out of my asus chromebox pretty much the day it was released back in 2014!

Recently I've noticed that I've been having a lot of playback issues, and Kodi freezes and it started happening after I used the script to upgrade the firmware. I am unsure if its because of the firmware upgrade or the Kodi (17 beta 6) version or the libreelec version (v7.90.009). I have even tried reverting back to the last stable release of LibreElec (7.0.2) but I still have playback issues.

Is there any known issues when using the latest firmware with older versions of LibreElec? Is it possible that all my upgrading/downgrading may be the cause? Or is it simply that my original CN60/M004U is starting to show its age and not able to handle the new h.264/h.265? I have the celeron model.

I have configured the settings from the wiki (3.4 Recommended Settings) but things aren't any better. I'm still getting studdering (like its the wrong FPS) and if i pause, the menus flicker.

Which log is the best to start getting to the bottom of this?

Cheers!

I don't recall it showing Disabled the first time I went into that section. I've set it to both Shutdown and Suspend and I have no way to disable it now. The only option in the menu is Shutdown/Suspend. This on LibreELEC 7.0.2/Kodi 16.1

I'm not understanding what you're asking for here. if it's not set to automatically shutdown or suspend after X amount of idle time, it's going to run 24/7. Not sure what the power menu options have to do with it.

So I have a Asus Chorme Box and I have the dual boot LibreELEC/kodi setup I guess..

I just got a 4k tcl tv and I am getting no signal. Not sure if I am reading this right but I need to redo my box and go with single boot for it to work now? It's fine on my projector and all my ben q monitors but once hooked up to the 4k tv I get nothing.

4929.24.26 firmware google panther
Os verfication is set to off
16.1 Jarvis.

the firmware isn't going to affect video playback at all, so any issues you're having are either with LE/Kodi or the files themselves. The Chromebox can't decode h.265/HEVC in hardware, so you're limited by the CPU there. Some 1080p HEVC content will definitely be problematic, depending on bitrate and encoding profile. H.264 shouldn't be a problem unless it's Hi-10P, which again isn't hardware decoded. I'd recommend either backing up and starting fresh (w/7.90.009) or booting a live USB/SD and using that for testing. If the problem is reproducible with locally stored media, then post in the Linux/Live support forum with a debug log so the Kodi devs can take a look.

it seems that there are a lot of HDMI handshaking issues with the Chromebox and 4K displays; unfortunately I don't have one myself yet to test/troubleshoot. I do know that many people have reported success using my standalone UEFI firmware (which would require a fresh install of LibreELEC) since that initializes the display in a completely different way. Shoot me an email or hit me up on Hangouts at MrChromebox at gmail and I'll help you thru it. Eventually I'll be replacing the standalone firmware in the Kodi EZ Setup Script with the UEFI firmware but haven't done so yet.

I don't have a way to not set it to shutdown or suspend, unless I'm just totally missing something. Here's what I have available: in Kodi to set: http://i.imgur.com/NfSAeIEl.jpg

the shutdown/suspend function is only relevant when the timer setting above is active; otherwise it just sets the function of the remote 'powertoggle' command
