Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - Hedda - 2014-08-25 I am wondering if anyone got an Android media player based Rockchip RK3288 SoC and how your experience with it so far? Many different Android media player boxes and sticks powered by it have been announced but only a few released to date. For those who haven't read up on the RK3288 yet it is Rockchip's new flagship SoC, featuring Quad-Core Cortex-A17 series CPU running at up to 1.8GHz and ARM Mali-T764 GPU. Other than have very powerful 3D graphics GPU and CPU for a cheap ARM SoC the most interesting thing about RK3288 from XBMC and media playback functionality point of view is that it features latest VPU hardware video decoding for 4K2K (4Kx2K/3840X2160) 8-bit H.264 and 10-bit H.265 / HEVC, and 1080p MVC (Multiview Video Coding) videos decode, and the SoC can support HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.X output at 4K Ultra HD (3840X2160) resolution at 60 fps but not all manufacturers will choose to go with a HDMI 2.0 port yet. http://www.rock-chips.com/a/en/products/RK32_Series/2014/0504/484.html http://www.rock-chips.com/a/en/News/Press_Releases/2013/0620/227.html The announced RK3288 based Android devices from reputable manufactures I found so far to be "coming soon" are these: - Tronsmart Orion R28 - Uyesee G1H - Nagrace HPH NT-V6 - Eny Technology EKB328 - Kingnovel R6 - Kingnoval K-R68 - Beelink R28 - Ugoos UT3 - Ugoos UM3 - Rikomagic MK902 II - Measy B4S - MINIX NEO X9 (rumor only) - Sunchip CX-920 - Sunchip CX-99 - Sunchip CX-998S - OTT-928 / OTT928 / CS928 - Starlead Q8 / Neken M9 - OpenHour by CloudMedia - CloudnetGo CR12 - CloudnetGo CR13 - CloudnetGo CR16 - 10moons D8+ - Zero Devices Z6C - Artway Q8 - PMD OEM Box - No brand MK903V - No brand D368 - No brand B368 - No brand GK388 Once readily available and the firmware have matures a little I suspect that RK3288 based devices will be the go-to SoC for most XBMC enthusiasts because of its price verses performance ratio. RE: Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - dali211 - 2014-08-28 I also find an TV BOX of RK3288 on Amazon, wondering how about it's XBMC? http://www.amazon.com/Tronfy-R89-Mali-T764-Streaming-Bluetooth/dp/B00N0AVXOY/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=1-6&keywords=R89+tv+box RE: Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - shomari - 2014-08-28 I have a Bluetimes QPRO RK3288 on the way from the factory, it should be here soon. I'll post a review and link it here as soon as I get done testing. UPDATE: The agent informed me that RK3288 chip is unstable at present and only by October this will be perfect. and therefore cancelled my order..thats interesting! RE: Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - Hedda - 2014-09-01 Tronsmart and Geekbuying have joined forces and are stated that they will now put their money where their months are to support Tronsmart Orion R28. http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/08/29/tronsmart-orion-r28-beta-tv-boxes-with-rockchip-rk3288-soc-feature-up-to-4gb-ram-32gb-emmc-come-with-android-sdk/ http://promotion.geekbuying.com/promotion/tronsmart_rk3288_mini_pc_release With that they mean that will both directly and indirectly sponsor or subsidise the development of XBMC for Rockchip RK3288 and firmware ROMs of R28. http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?16661-TRONSMART-ORION-R28-IS-COMING-QUAD-CORE-RK3288-WITH-OTA-3-VERSION http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php/2014/08/28/tronsmart-orion-r28-is-coming-quad-core-rk3288-with-ota-3-version/ Quote:After Long time silence, Tronsmart finally release their RK3288 device. Model Name : Orion R28Freaktab developers also started working on ROMs for Beelink R28 (same OEM HW as Tronsmart R28) which was given out for free to selected developers. Yes, It is the Pro version:Tronsmart Orion R28 Pro RK3288 2GB RAM / 8GB Storage / Quad-Core CPU 1.6GHz, but the Meta version isn't available for the moment. RE: Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - nero12 - 2014-09-03 Some info i found: The Orion R28 will come in three forms. The Pro, the Meta and the Telos. The first comes with 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. The Pro also comes with 2GB of RAM but has 16GB of storage plus 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi. The Telos model won’t initially be available, but when it is released it will feature 4GB of RAM along with 32GB of internal storage and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi. Apparently there is a bug in this first batch. and i guess thats why they want to sell to only developers. Just ordered one of these. RE: Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - Hedda - 2014-09-03 Cloud Media (a company previously known as Syabas of Popcorn Hour fame/infame) have announced "OpenHour Chameleon" http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/09/02/cloudmedia-openhour-chameleon-quad-core-tv-box-boots-android-or-linux-from-sd-card/ http://www.cloudmedia.com/openhour/ http://wiki.openhourlab.com/index.php/Main_Page http://forum.openhourlab.com/ OpenHour will be a RK3288 based media player that boots from SD card and will support both Android and Ubuntu Linux http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=203521 Regarding XBMC their wiki says "Note: Custom XBMC with H.265 RK3288 hardware playback support will be available soon" http://wiki.openhourlab.com/index.php/Setting_Up_Home_Theatre_System_Using_XBMC RE: Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - clon74 - 2014-09-03 Hedda, as you see in the last three post of http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=203521 Open Hour has not proven its partnership with XBMC, and many users complain about firmware release dates, I'll wait for the second batch of Tronsmart Orion R28 RE: Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - Hedda - 2014-09-04 (2014-09-04, 09:10)Jayce Wrote: I'm also keeping my eye on a coming soon Android Box. http://vidon.me/vidon_box.htmJudging by your previous post I strongly suspect you must either work for VidOn or are a business-affiliated to them, which if is the case then your post here is just spam! Regardless you post about a non-RK3288 based with a different older generation SoC is totally unrelated here. Not containing competing hardware with HEVC/H.264 hardware video decoding support your media player isn't even an alternative to these, please go away! |
