An 80% value depreciation on a 3 year old system is not that spectacular... if you need to compare you should look at the HTPC components you would need to buy today to match the RK3288 capabilities and performance.
But money and time spend in HTPC build and maintenance plus the required skill level have always been a challenge for many users.... So I think you might just be right on your expectations of the RK3288 based mediaplayers.

Consider that on a Windows based HTPC, ONLY the OS (Windows 8.1) is more expensive than the Android TV BOXSad

I am not saying that developers should stop developing Kodi for Windows. What I mean is that considering how cheap and powerful such a TV BOX is, they should try to get the Android Kodi version to the same level of functionality and stability as on Windows because I think this is the way to go: An amazing MediaCenter for less than 100€BlushBlush

What I am missing on the Kodi Version for android so far is :

- No music library update possible
- No System Shutdown possible
- Better compatibility with external connected keyboards (for example backspace is not deleting characters) .
- Better compatibility with plugins (I have issues with plugins when executed on the Ipad (constellation app issue?)

I know that Developers are working on Kodi for Android, they do a great job and I am sure we will get in the near future Kodi running without any issue on Android!

I guess no good news for my friend Bill G. Wink

Android will never compete with windows and Linux while android

*usually doesn't do HD audio
*doesn't play at anything other than 60hz.

These are not anything kodi development can fix.

Oh and ipad is not android.

Hi nickr!

I dont know where you got these information from....

My device is an android mini pc Rikomagic MK902 II (RK3288) and I am right now watching a Movie in 1920x1080@24Hz on my Samsung TV (TV Curvo 4K SAMSUNG Smart TV 55'' ) just fine.

Best Audio quality AC3 5.1 and DTS 5.1 over SPDIF(Yamaha RX-V659) with no issues.

Can´t test True HD sound over HDMI because I dont have this kind of equipment.

Once music library is supported on Kodi for Android I am going to replace my overkilled Windows HTPC (Intel I5, AMD HD7070) by this little Android Box!

And I know that an Ipad is not Android basedWink I use the application constellation on IPAD as remote control for Kodi.

I think he means that XBMC/Kodi can't switch refresh rate on-the-fly on Android. Not yet, at least.

RE: Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - Roby77 - 2014-10-05

i don't see autoframerate synch neither in android 4.5

Roby currently Google plans for Android TV to be a fork of Android L which should have auto refresh rates baked in.

Many different Android media player boxes and sticks powered by it have been announced but only a few released to date.

For those who haven't read up on the RK3288 yet it is Rockchip's new flagship SoC, featuring Quad-Core Cortex-A17 series CPU running at up to 1.8GHz and ARM Mali-T764 GPU.

Other than have very powerful 3D graphics GPU and CPU for a cheap ARM SoC the most interesting thing about RK3288 from XBMC and media playback functionality point of view is that it features latest VPU hardware video decoding for 4K2K (4Kx2K/3840X2160) 8-bit H.264 and 10-bit H.265 / HEVC, and 1080p MVC (Multiview Video Coding) videos decode, and the SoC can support HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.X output at 4K Ultra HD (3840X2160) resolution at 60 fps but not all manufacturers will choose to go with a HDMI 2.0 port yet.

The announced RK3288 based Android devices from reputable manufactures I found so far to be "coming soon" are these:

- Tronsmart Orion R28
- Uyesee G1H
- Nagrace HPH NT-V6
- Eny Technology EKB328
- Kingnovel R6
- Kingnoval K-R68
- Beelink R28
- Ugoos UT3
- Ugoos UM3
- Rikomagic MK902 II
- Measy B4S
- MINIX NEO X9 (rumor only)
- Sunchip CX-920
- Sunchip CX-99
- Sunchip CX-998S
- OTT-928 / OTT928 / CS928
- Starlead Q8 / Neken M9
- OpenHour by CloudMedia
- CloudnetGo CR12
- CloudnetGo CR13
- CloudnetGo CR16
- 10moons D8+
- Zero Devices Z6C
- Artway Q8
- PMD OEM Box
- No brand MK903V
- No brand D368
- No brand B368
- No brand GK388

Once readily available and the firmware have matures a little I suspect that RK3288 based devices will be the go-to SoC for most XBMC enthusiasts because of its price verses performance ratio.

Thanks for giving us so many information about RK3288 TV box, I know some of them are listed in the market now. The 10moons D8+ and Tronsmart Orion R28 seems has high customer satisfaction. 10moons D8+ maybe the most cheap prices RK3288 Android TV Box at present, it only costs $74.90 in this shop. Tronsmart Orion R28 has three version(the highest Telos version hasn't been released yet) for choosing.

It's about time someone starts posting reviews on one of these boxes here.. this marketing yada is starting to bore me.

RE: Rockchip RK3288 SoC based Android media players and XBMC experience? - Hideto17 - 2014-10-10

The information says the chip supoorts H264 8bit anda H265 10bit.

So, no support for a H264 10bit (Hi10P) encode?

Here's one, but as expected, early firmware and issues, especially XBMC. When Minix releases their X9, it may end up being better than Cloud Media's Open Hour, Tronsmart and other RK3288 boxes.
