Looks like it has android and is a scaled down version of the Fire TV box at less than half the price.
Exciting, I must say...

This says it can be directly downloaded from the amazon fire tv App Store, is it true?

For $19 right now, I ordered 2 Smile. If no XBMC or SPMC, still a cheap Internet streamer.

Amazon have now posted all the hardware specifications with CPU, GPU, VPU, Memory and MHz clocking:

https://developer.amazon.com/public/solutions/devices/fire-tv/docs/device-and-platform-specifications

Other than having lower performance Amazon claim that Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick will work exactly the same:

"All supported technologies are the same for Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick"

Me too, had considered cancelling Prime as I watch very little Prime movies/TV & now mostly buy my Blu-rays in store after Amazon started charging tax for my state. So, 2-day free shipping doesn't have as much appeal.

The media player market has become fiercely competitive, from small Chinese manufacturers to big dogs like Amazon & Google. Great to these kinds of prices.

Heh, I also bought 2. I've been an amazon prime member for years, but for me it's always been all about the free shipping on cheap stuff. I guess we'll see what's possible when this comes out.

RE: fire tv stick - Koying - 2014-10-27

Was about to ask someone on the Team with Amazon Prime to buy me one Wink

RE: fire tv stick - Plany - 2014-10-27

the stick is nothing for me... but the remote looks nice

hope it's compatible with my OE-system Big Grin

RE: fire tv stick - ikecomp - 2014-10-27

You guys beat me to it. For $19 this could be a really nice device. If it can handle kodi and plex relatively well for this price tag it would definitely be worth it. So tempted to buy one even though I already have a chromecast and roku streaming stick.
