updating drivers on Openelc Intel NUC boxes - harry fine - 2014-11-20

I see all these windows driver updates for my Intel NUC box but how do drivers for Linux distressed like OpenElc get updated?

OpenELEC is a self-contained system/distribution. New drivers are usually included with each new release. You don't update the drivers without updating the whole system. It's by design.

Windows drivers are very different from linux drivers. They do not correspond to each other.

Milhouse's explanation about OpenELEC is spot on.

If using a different linux distro you will have to use the specific distribution tools (aptitude, yum, zypper, pacman, etc) to update.

It also shifts the hard work onto the OE dev team. As users we don't need to worry about good or bad driver versions and whether to update them or not. The devs track bugs, which driver versions fix them (and often push to get fixes into the drivers) or cause new issues, and update as appropriate.

It makes a NUC/Chromebox very close to an appliance.
