Kernel 18.1 and Radeon RV630 - Maxi - 2014-12-19

Hi All

Just installed Linux on an old PC with a Radeon HD based on RV630. I installed Linux Kernel 18.1 because I understand it adds support for UVD in this old HD models, but when booting I got the following error:

And indeed, the firmware (R600_uvd.bin) is not present on /lib/firmware/radeon :-)

So: Does anybody know what's the best (most stable) repo to get it? And also, shouldn't this come with a normal install? (never had such problems with a Radeon HD 5XXX)

It really depends on your distro - which you are not mentioning.

Most distributions offer a separate firmware package, e.g. Debian has firmware-linux-nonfree. Don't know how old RV630 is though and if firmware is included.

You are missing the correct firmware ...
