Kernel 18.1 and Radeon RV630 - Maxi - 2014-12-19 Hi All Just installed Linux on an old PC with a Radeon HD based on RV630. I installed Linux Kernel 18.1 because I understand it adds support for UVD in this old HD models, but when booting I got the following error: [ 8.719854] [drm] Detected VRAM RAM=512M, BAR=256M [ 8.719856] [drm] RAM width 128bits DDR [ 8.731420] [drm] radeon: 512M of VRAM memory ready [ 8.731422] [drm] radeon: 64M of GTT memory ready. [ 8.734819] [drm] Loading RV630 Microcode [ 8.745509] [drm] Internal thermal controller with fan control [ 8.745964] [drm] radeon: power management initialized [ 8.746016] radeon 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for radeon/R600_uvd.bin failed with error -2 [ 8.746021] radeon 0000:01:00.0: radeon_uvd: Can't load firmware "radeon/R600_uvd.bin"[/b][/code] And indeed, the firmware (R600_uvd.bin) is not present on /lib/firmware/radeon :-) So: Does anybody know what's the best (most stable) repo to get it? And also, shouldn't this come with a normal install? (never had such problems with a Radeon HD 5XXX) Thanks !!! RE: Kernel 18.1 and Radeon RV630 - .:B:. - 2014-12-20 It really depends on your distro - which you are not mentioning. Most distributions offer a separate firmware package, e.g. Debian has firmware-linux-nonfree. Don't know how old RV630 is though and if firmware is included. RE: Kernel 18.1 and Radeon RV630 - fritsch - 2014-12-20 You are missing the correct firmware ... Code: wget http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-firmware_1.140_all.deb Please. This is not a general Linux help forum. RE: Kernel 18.1 and Radeon RV630 - Maxi - 2014-12-22 Thanks a lot guys !!!. It solved my problem. |
