RE: Kodi 14.0 Helix - Released! - AndrewRt - 2014-12-31

Hello,

I am somewhat new to XBMC/KODI. I was wondering. Do I need to do a fresh install of Kodi, or is there a way to "upgrade" to the newest build?

RE: Kodi 14.0 Helix - Released! - DAVE B - 2015-01-01

I am new to the Kodi experience after upgrading from xbmc Gotham 13.2, which worked brilliantly for me. I know a lot of people have spent a lot of time developing the KODI 14.0 Helix, and I applaud everyone`s efforts. I was informed the Helix version was a "stable" version so I downloaded it. It was stable for less than 2 days and then it crashed. As I am not really a computer nerd, I had no idea how to transfer the userdata or settings over to Helix so therefore I did a fresh install. It took me ages and then it all crashed anyway. I eventually reinstalled all my programs and add-ons and repositories and they worked fine. I then started to encounter problems trying to set up Livetv. As I live in Thailand I feel this is extremely important. Eventually, I was getting the PVR Data appearing on the top of the screen so I thought it was ok but Live TV did not appear on the Menu Bar. I doubled checked all the settings were added correctly and it still did not appear. After following several Youtube links to add Movies, TV Shows to the menu bar I just gave up. Nothing seems compatible with things that worked well on my Gotham version. I know it is early days since the official launch of Helix but is there light at the end of the tunnel or do I go back to the old tried and trusted version?

This is a prime example of why we get pissed off at the people who dick around with the "piracy" add-ons and streams, and for reasons that have nothing to do with the law, morals, or group image. Poorly maintained add-ons, regardless of being "piracy" or not, cause a lot of support burden. The crashes are probably that repo issue with xunity or whatever, and the PVR not working is because the "popular" IPTV playlist was taken down by the guy who made it. Your problems have nothing to do with Kodi being stable or not, and have everything to do with third parties screwing up your system. It certainly doesn't help that you don't know how to use the program itself and now expect people to hold your hand when it doesn't work.

RE: Kodi 14.0 Helix - Released! - saytar - 2015-01-02

I understand some have a problem with "add-ons", but not all of us have gotten that far. I have been waiting until Kodi was released to install it (why configure 13 then turn around and have to reconfigure because of changes).

Been working with Plex and have not had any problems other than a small router/firewall configuration, at least so far. Installed Kodi tonite and sorry to say I can't say how it works.........................a totally black screen when it try's to start with no error messages......

So not all "black screen" issue's are due to bootleg plugins.....Thought problem might be Plex running at same time so disabled that and rebooted......same issue. Only log I saw was kodi.txt (appears to be a log file) in the AppData/Roaming/Kodi directory.

I'd attach it, but I must not have privilege's yet to do so.....Errors I noted are a list of massive buffer underruns on especially CWin32Directsound.

No unusual hardware here...Intel DQ35J0E mb, 2 gig ram, 3.0 ghz dual core cpu, ATI HD5450 DVI/HDMI (latest drivers), 160 gig SATA drive, with Win7 Ulitmate........pretty basic No fancy ram disk weird hardware.....and no off the wall plugins (haven't gotten there yet!)

Only unusual thing might be I am running it headless with Remote Desktop. I have had xbmc 13 installed on a Linux Ubuntu LAMP server machine for awhile playing with it waiting for Kodi, so far no issue's with it.....other than a few plugins that are not kept up.....but those are noted as being defunct..

I don't think any equipment I'm using is strange or unique.....from most I've read what I have is middle road..not low end, but also not high end....which I believe is what a majority of user's have. It's definitely a better setup than an Atom board or most NUC's.......the board will support quad core cpus (and a few Xeons) and more memory (up to 8 gig), but since the Only things that are planned to be running on it is an antivirus, malwarebytes, Plex (for backend only in the future, don't plan on using both at same time right now during testing) and XBMC...ie KODI.......OR just KODI depending on its potential usefulness.

If you want you can move this post to the appropriate area or let me know and I will do so....Lurking for now to see where this is going. Below is small sample of logs.

P.S. Don't need any hand holding....just some info on where to look as I understand this version is a basic total rewrite (old format wont' transfer over intact), so there is little yet to Google for advanced information

Take your log off here and put it on pastebin please.

What is the point of running headless? How do you watch your movies without a screen? Remote desjtoo is most unlikely to work. Do yourself a favour and invest in an hdmi cable.

There is no complete re-write.
