Hi,

I am not sure about the purpose of this thread. Assuming that it is for gathering ideas and opinions, here I go:

1) I agree with point 3.1 and 3.2 of the GSOC 2015 wiki page about support for multiple users and server improvements.

More and more people store their media on a NAS or something similar. It would be great if Kodi could work with only one database stored on a NAS, that would support multiple users. A user could start watching a movie in the living room, go to another room with a different kodi installation and resume the movie there. It should be possible to have every user have an own set of files that are visible to him, so that for example childrens would only have access to a subset of the media and or not be allowed to delete movies... . Last, but not least, if there is only one database, the admin would only have to maintain one database instead of do a re-import on each kodi installation everytime he updates the metadata of a file.

2) Improved browser support

Browser support to control kodi or to work with the metadata? In the case of the latter, I would suggest to have the changes also stored in nfo files; but this time might be better invested in improving third party applications like MediaElch.

3) Improved metadata handling

As of kodi 14.2, it still does not read the metadata stored in video files, especially mp4 and mkv files. As a media management system, I see it as a core feature of kodi.

Moreover, an improvement of the handling of the music videos might also be necessary: in fact, it is not clear what kodi considers as a music video: a clip with a single song or a full concert? A distinction between single clips, concerts and movies might be useful. What about documentaries? What about sports. Based on the default confluence skin, kodi supports at the moment only movies and tv shows. Other types of videos have momentarily to be accessed indirectly.

4) Confluence skin improvements

I miss for example a supported way to add items to the main menu, that at the moment shows the items System, Videos, Music, Movies,...

Cheers

@thanks RockerC for the headups and for the links. It is great to see that part of what I wrote (Better Profile Support) is being worked upon. Big Grin
