Ok this is semi important. While in the Dolphin-emu IRC channel a couple of people including 1 dev I do believe were testing the Ethernet port on the Shield and only got upwards of 450mbps is that what others on here are seeing as well?

The ethernet speeds depends on many factors including the cable that was used it must be minimum cat5e utp with shielded sockets.

Hello,
From my experience, you can control the Shield (Android) volume with the remote. I have not tried finding a way to control the TV volume with the remote, and never accidentally did it. But in my opinion it is fine this way, i have control on the volume with the Shield volume adjustment.

On a side note, i can control Kodi from my TV (Pana GT30) remote, which is nice.

Thanks for the reply. Still not getting it completely. For me it is important that if I use the Shield remote I can turn TV whn wakeing the Shield up from standbay and that it turns off the TV when I put it into standby and that I can control the TVs Volume with the Shield remote.

That all I had with the Apple TV 4 which was really great. Just the playback capabilities were bad...

If this is possible, then the Shield is bought Smile

If you are using HDMI ARC with your AVR, then yes you can do that.

Doesn't turn off tv but will turn on tv and avr.

Because if you ask a one sentence question with no details, you'll get a one sentence answer with no details.

Also, if you'd bothered to click on a few links, which start on that wiki page you could have gotten to HERE, which includes how to troubleshoot NFS problems. You have to do some of the work yourself and read the wiki.

For your information It was hardly a one sentence question, there was more information in there than you are giving me credit for, as it was I did click on through some of the links and read the page on nfs issues which where not relevant to my problem.
As it is I did a lot of work myself and ended up editing my Zyxel share permissions by ssh to something that kodi android likes, there is no exact information on how to do this on a Zyxel so I had to read a few tutorials and improvise, now it works.
I just thought there must be people who hang around these forums a lot who must have known that the answer I required was specialist knowledge, even from the One Line.

Can you explain me, i have the same problems

Did you try MrMC on the ATV4? It's a Kodi fork (minus add-ons and DVD replay to get it App Store compliant). Pretty effective solution on the ATV4 (though deinterlacing is basic, and the UI a WIP.)

Yes I did. And I liked the ATV alot, also with MrMC, baught it immediatelly. But the deinterlacing capabilities are really bad...and transcoding LiveTV from tvheadend all the time is also not a great solution. So I returned it.
Also the remote support from MrMC was not that great, I know thats their first shot and its great, still not there. So I returned it...

Is it possible to launch GameStream activities directly from Kodi, rather than going to the Android TV menu and then going into GameStream, then selecting a game, I was hoping that maybe through Advanced Launcher and Android Intents or Activities we could get a seamless Kodi GameStream experience.

Also does anybody have a solution to directly launch into Kodi when the device boots, you can no longer replace the home launcher in Android TV 6.0.

You should be able to mark game stream as a favorite from the confluence skin and launch it from favorites, or with most skins make a shortcut directly to that favorite and call the menu option game stream

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - Brumey - 2015-12-27

Hello:
I just killed my Microsoft Media Center and moved to Windows 10. As a result, my Xbox360 has gone into retirement. I have just purchased an Nvidia Shield and hope to load Kodi on my Win 10 box. My goal is to replace media center functionality, specifically live TV and DVR of said live TV.

Questions for those who jumped in earlier than I:

1) Can I play Live OTA TV on the Nvidia Shield with Kodi in the backend using two or more USB tuners?
2) Can I pause live TV using the same?
3) Can I schedule recordings form the Kodi app on the shield?

I have only owned the Shield an hour and have searched for info on my basics needs. Would welcome ANY advice.

My other goals are to use the Shield for Amazon, Netflix, BBC (I know I have a VPN challenge), etc.

Thanks,

Kevin.

Your answer to all three is yes, but you will need to run a PVR back-end on a separate box for full functionality (though for Live TV you could use an HD Homerun without one). The PVR back-end will support your multiple USB tuners (or an HD Homerun networked tuner), recording and playback of recordings and Live TV to your Kodi front-end running on your nVidia stream. I run TV Headend, and there is reasonable ATSC USB support for US OTA HDTV in it I believe (if you are in North American and using an antenna/aerial) If you are in Europe then SAT>IP stuff is also worth a look - which will give you networked satellite support (again you will still need a back-end).

You can use either a small, low-power x86 box running Linux, or a low-power ARM SoC device like an ODroid C1/C1+ (beware kernel support for your specific USB TV tuner, though an HD Homerun should work fine with most things.

You can't run the back-end on the nVidia Shield - you will need another box to handle PVR and Tuner duties. The integration with the TV Headend (or VDR or MythTV) back-ends into the Kodi front-end running on the Shield will be very good though.

AIUI recent Kodi builds for the Shield have re-introduced hardware deinterlacing for both MPEG2 and H264 - though worth checking. At one point the deinterlacing was a Bob in software for some codecs (MPEG2?) - but I think this has change.

As for VPN support - I don't know if it is possible to run a VPN within Android, but it is certainly possible to use some WiFi Access Points with a VPN (either OOB or by reflashing with OpenWRT, DDWRT, Tomato etc.) I've used both OOB and reflash approaches to allow me to remotely connect devices to a VPN when travelling.
