It was this or Wetek core and since the core is out of stock and i was able to grab a shield with a lower price then i did not hesitate. The fact that Nvidia is still improving the box is also a great factor.

Any goto guide to setting up/tune the perfect shield?

you need a guide if its a custom hack or something. No such thing necessary with the shield. Just install Kodi and get your addons and you are done,.

He's probably asking for the best settings, etc. All that stuff is referenced in the wiki.

Anyone had an issue where taking a screenshot results in an all black png? I swear this thing was working fine before...

If it is playing back video media, yes I get a black screen, I figured this was normal. I have taken screen shots with the Shields option and it shows everything, same with recording, except you need to turn pass-through audio off to capture it of course.

I have Kodi set to save my screenshots to a dropbox folder, which triggers an IFTTT recipe to upload it to a twitter account.

These tweets have shots from videos currently playing on Kodi, after editing my keymap so that holding down Back during video takes a screen:

I grabbed this one via the Shield's native grabber:

Just weird that it was working before and now is all black. I don't think I changed anything, but maybe I did and forgot about it. I'll start digging through settings.

Mine go to Google Drive folder on my NAS, I like the IFTT trigger idea, wonder if I can get that working with imgur, although twitter would be fine and immediately reduce the size.
Looking at that twitter account, you seem to take a lot of screenshots.

Not really, I just forgot I had 60 something screenshots in the folder when I setup the dropbox/IFTTT thing, so they all posted at once. Luckily only me and two other people were following the twitter account, but I felt vaguely bad about spamming their feed with bad screens of a bunch of random stuff. Smile

At some point I really want to make/request a mod for Eminence that doesn't has a minimal OSD on pause, or fades the OSD in over time, or something.

Hi,

Can anyone advise me on how I can transfer files to the NVIDIA Shield remotely?

Normally I've always used ES FIle Explorer on my Android devices but the SHIELD, for some reason, has never worked. The only time it ever seems to work with ES File Explorer is when the SHIELD is connected via wifi but that no longer seems to work either. :/

Is there a firewall or something on the device that is preventing a connection being established with the SHIELD for file transfer? I tried an alternative, stand-alone FTP app but that didn't seem to work either when I tried it a few weeks back so I'm led to think that it is the device that is the problem. This has been bugging me for some time as I can't quickly modify Kodi skin files for testing purposes.

Would really appreciate any help or advice and would be great to hear if others are experiencing similar issues.

Thanks Wink

I am going to guess it may have something to do with root access being disabled. You may have to turn on the developers options, although I am not sure if that gives you root access either.

For the record, I have never been able to remote into an android device, fire tv or shield. Then again I have not tried real hard to do it either.

Have you tried using the es file explorer android TV option?

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - ozkhan1 - 2016-01-14

I think he is asking about transferring files to Shield remotely (FTP/SSH/SMB, etc)

I personally no longer use ES, I find X-Plore to be far better https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lonelycatgames.Xplore&hl=en

For FTP, follow this guide, works very well - http://nvidiashieldzone.com/index.php/tutorial-ftp-server-on-shield-android-tv/
Now the only time I use an internal file manager such as X-Plore is to sidelaod APKs, everything else gets done via FTP as it’s so easy.
