RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - kimitschu - 2015-10-09

Hi all !

Just wanted to post some informative/positive feedback.

My installation is humble compared to some but it still gets the job done.

TV : Panasonic AX800 65"
Sound : bose 1-2-3 system 2.1 (connected to tv by optical cable)
Media storage : Synology DS 1812+
Network : gigabit ethernet (WiFi only for smartphones and the occasionnal laptop)

BEFORE : Kodi was installed on an old macbook air (i5, 2gb ram)
NOW : Kodi 15.2 rc3 installed on a 500gb Shield TV

The shield is plugged to the HDMI 4 port of the AX800 (the only port supporting 4k), I have to admit : this little creeper is just insanely great as media center (minus the 2.0 firmware gamma bug, waiting for the announced patch).

Kodi is blazing fast and reads everything I throw at it.

Got things to debug and troubleshoot but in my case this is better than my previous set-up Smile

Btw if other AX800 owners succeeded in using their tv remote control via Hdmi CEC with kodi , I'd love to know how they did it !

I have a question about Kodi on shield.

For now the autoframerate doesn't work on my unit, but I've read that'll be fixed in the 15.2 final.
My question is about the the 24p framerate :
Does Kodi on shield can output 24.000hz for 24.000hz content, and 23.976 for 23.976 content ?

Thank you Smile

yes it can Wink

Can you print/screenshot a confirmation of 23.976 content playing at 23.976 in the shield ?

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - marcaurellexxx - 2015-10-10

Same question for me :
just ordered a shield TV but I thought the problem was done with OTA 2.0 !
anyone can confirm autoswitching between 23.976 , 24 , 25 or 29.9 fps works very well with Kodi 15.1 ?

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - Mylo75 - 2015-10-10

Probably a stupid question but here goes.

Can the shield tv dual boot? If so is windows/Linux/openelec supported.

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - Schrotty - 2015-10-10

No dual boot.

So two more Big Grin

1) Can we change/add Kodi shortcuts Keyboard ?

2) I only have a Harmony remote IR, and as you know, some buttons don't work.
And especialy one very important : Contextual menu (X on pad, C on keyboard).
Is there something I can do about that ?

Thanks Smile

Assuming that the IR signals are being received by the Shield, you should be able to use the Keymap Editor plugin in Kodi to map those buttons to whatever function(s) you want. If that doesn't work, you can snag one of these:

That remote works flawlessly in both the Shield UI and Kodi. Use your Harmony to learn all of the buttons from that Remote, then use Keymap Editor (and/or tweak the userdata/keymap .xml files) to configure the buttons to do whatever you like; this is the route that I went with my URC remote. The little IR receiver that comes with the remote I linked above is very responsive. I don't have any Harmony remotes anymore to test this with (former 880, One, and 900 user), but there's no reason for it not to work.
Thanks for the tip Wink

The first one doesn't work, since the IR signals are not received by the shield.
So I ordered the MCE remote, and will let this topic know how it worksSmile
Got the remote yesterday et everything works witk Kodi Big Grin
I used it to learn the signals to my Harmony, so no need to wait update from Logitech anymore.

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - Blurayx - 2015-10-10

Auto frame rate doesn't work after quitting . I have to stop/start for it to start working . Auto frame rate works correctly until I quit kodi again.

This only happens with Kodi 16.0 and nightly builds. Kodi 15.2 rc3 works perfectly.

Has anyone noticed this issue?

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - marcaurellexxx - 2015-10-10

23.976 fps works very well now ?

Hi marcaurellexxx,

please reboot your NVSTV, Then play a 23.976 fps file.

Are you using kodi 16?

Thanks

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - marcaurellexxx - 2015-10-10

No, I was wondering if anyone has the same issue as me with kodi I6.

Blurayx,

When you see Kodi not switching refresh rates just keep hitting back through the item list to the home screen. Then hit back once more and it will switch. Works for me. Koying said it is fixed in the 15 now bit not 16 yet.

HI drhill,
Thank you for the info. I'm relived it's a bug not my NVSTV.

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - Chippy_boy - 2015-10-10

Hello folks, newbie here.

Sorry I have searched for this but not managed to find an answer. My Shield arrives tomorrow and I want to use it as a hifi audio player. I have a load of 16/44.1 rips and a hundred or so albums in 24/96 lossless.

Will I be able to output these files via USB to my DAC without resampling? As I understand it, Android 5 now supports 24 bit and 96k output, but does this work with Android TV on the shield, with Kodi?

RE: NVIDIA Shield (Android TV set-top box) - nikc0069 - 2015-10-10

So am I right in saying that kodi on shield will now tell your display to switch to 24p in kodi 15 but not 16 just yet? I'm aware hd audio passthrough isn't a go just yet. Can someone clarify as this does everything else I'd like it to.
